Being one of the football favourites in the world, England has a tremendous achievements in this great game. With the past greats like Gary Linekar, Peter Shilton, Kevin Deegan, Gordon Banks, Bobby Charlton, Bobby Moore, Stanley Mathews, Billyt Wrights, the English Football had come off ages.They had great spirits and this is not yet over.
The present team is really a power out in the World arena with strong midfielders, strikers, defence, and many specialists.Well, David Beckham is enough to personify the current England team but off course theirs is not a one man army.
The current England team has really strong defence with the likes of Ferdinand, Danny Milles, Ashey Cole, Sol Campbell, Wes Brown providing the necessary wall and unbreakable defence.This is the best defence in contemporary football, I believe.
Actually the midfielders have the uncanny ability to slow the game and make the opponents tired.Why, take David Beckham...He is simply awesome...Where cant he play?His free kick...Oh my God...Its simply out of the world. Paul Scholes, Danny Murphy and Joe Cole are simply bamboozling in the field.Others like Owen Hargreaves, Nicky Butt, Kiero Dyer and no less good.
But the main part, their strength, lies in the Strikers. Michael Owen(My personal favourite), Emile Heskey, Jeddy Sheringham, Vassell and Fowler are wonderful to say the least. They are really capable of whizzing the ball past the attacks of the opponents. But there is lot more talent in England that is yet to be discovered.If that does happens no wonder England would rocket up to the top spot with the ability to beat the likes of Brazil.
Goal Keeper David Seaman though not impressive, as other is good enough.As he gets immense support from the defence, he doesn’t really have to be all that acrobatic.But he does seem to be shaky at times and he has to improve on that count. Remember the Goal for Brazil in the Quaters of the World Cup.
Well the current English team did a great job in the World Cup with all those injury worries looming around them.But I felt, they shouldnt have faced the Brazilians in the Quaters. If they had’nt then I bet the finals would have been electrifying.But that was not to be. In the previous world cup the Englishmen had a nightmare with Beckham getting a Red Card and Argentina winning the encounter and moving ahead.But they put that all behind and performed wonderfully well.Hats off to them.
In many people’s view, England is a one man army with only Beckham having the spotlight because he is the one who takes the corner, the free kick and penalties.But to be honest, he is like Sachin Tendulkar for the Indian team. One has to accept the fact that David is one in a billion.
Some Achievements: The English side won the World Cup in 1966 but they have been mostly unlucky throughout their world cup campaigns with injuries and bad team selection. They have reached the quaters thrice.But this world cup saw quite a decent performance of them.
In conclusion I can only say that if the players in England come together and Bend it Like Beckham does then surely in the coming years they would emerge a strong team with a strong League back home to back them.
