I recently had a meeting in Kuantan, the capital of the East Coast Malaysian state of Pahang and needed to book overnight accommodation. The Hotel Grand Continental, conveniently located in Jalan Gambut, in the town centre was my choice and I think it was a wise one. Check-in was a breeze and I was allocated a single-room on the 8th Floor within three or four minutes. The bedroom was spacious and comfortably furnished. There were two Queen-size beds, spare pillows, two Rattan chairs, a small table, a writing desk and chair, a TV, coffee and tea making facilities, a telephone with IDD facilities ad a matching floral fabric bedspread and curtains. There were a copious supply of coathangers, a spacious en-suite bathroom and a free newspaper.
The public rooms in the hotel were tastefully furnished and I enjoyed an excellent complementary breakfast in the Manja Coffee House on the ground floor. There was a good selection of fresh fruits such as papaya, kiwi fruit, watermelon and pineapple, various porridges, cereals, muesli, Asian and Western-style breakfasts. I opted for a 3 egg omelette together with beef sausages, baked beans and hash-brown potatoes. Excellent coffee and breakfast teas were also available.
I found the service at the Grand Continental to be thoroughly professional but friendly at the same time. Good service with a smile! A winning combination! The hotel has a swimming pool and a poolside bar and a small business centre. It is rated as a 3 star hotel and my package deal comprising accommodation and complementary breakfast cost me a mere US$35 Really good value for money! I think if you find a hotel that provides you value for money, is comfortable, has a reasonable array of facilities and the service is good, you will enjoy your stay !
