Hey Maddy into co production with abbasmustan .yes you read it right this is maddys co productive venture and what better as I doubt any tamil producer would have come forward to rewrite a old script "dombivili east" and present a gutsy film to the tamil.audience . No doubt it was a darring attempt by maddy but its not a commericial entertainer and hence what it has done is a huge dissappointment for all those who come to this film for the usual melodrama and commerical aspects that you usually relate with maddy the lover boy of tamil cinema.
well the original script by nishikanth kamat I hope I am right with those names, intact maddy has also done the dialogues for the film and except for the title music played by G.V.Prakash rest are all new names . well does it really matter lets check out what the movie has to offer.
Sridharan vasudevan the protoganist in maddy works for a bank and is married to sangeetha with two kids live in a apartment society which reflects the life of a routine schedule of a middleclass family in the city. the long queues for the water, local journeys on the suburban trains, and the routine time for food, tea, road side painter and some time with the kids . Sridhar is someone who belives and goes by his almost impractical policies that can make life difficult to live in this decaying society where bribes and shortcuts to fulfill needs are the order of the day. He is angered by the bribe that the water man takes, so be when rules are violated to give loans, why pay donations at school, or why tutions when the teacher collects fees to teach at school and the list goes on. His wife sangeetha is totally against what she feels is foolish and usually ends up fighting with maddy over all these petty issues.
The twist occurs when maddy and his friend is forced to pay an additional Rupee two for a cool drink which is supposedly more than the maximum retail price and he asks the shop keeper to return back. The shop keeper refuses and the rude comments and attitude shown angers maddy and from there on loses his moderate stand to get more violant and then follows the chain of events that makes the balance plot for the movie. Director seeman( thambhi fame) is the real hero is the cop who is assigned the duty to track down this white collared criminal in maddy. He potrays the role of a very sincere honest cop who ends up honest to his duty inspite his wisdom of what the real fact is .
Its an unusual film wwhich deals the gut, the truth behind the decaying failure of our systems and law and order is used to protect the real truth. Its an emotion that remains hidden within anyone of us and we have accepted the system that we are in and allowing the same to eat whatever little human left in us. Well its a film where the message is that any attempt to correct the system by becoming a superhero can yield only short time results and it requires a series of changes where people need to know and realise how they are being harrassed in day to day life and bring about small changes in them.
Madhavans performance is almost perfect but seeman is a bit drab with his dialogues . Its a movie without songs and comedy that takes the commercial element away and you could hear the audience yelling and yawning all the time . But then thats the real problem no body wants to listen to truth and we are responsible for all the small things thats making our own lifes miserable to live.
Madhavans rage is warranted, at times you feel the same when you really see things with right perspective . Its true if someone wants to step on the gas how different people react differently over the same issue. and thats been well and honestly captured. But then it is also correct that you dont need to go overboard in rage soing things that can yield temporary results.
Verdict
Its a Honest and sincere film . Take away the sedate treatment away and what you see is a beautiful script which highlights our way of life the ardent truth about how we address important responsible issues in life. . Evano oruvan can be "you" or "me" I think its time we think and address this decaying systems in whatever little ways we can . weapons and superheroism may work but temporarily. Think for a better future . the answer is within.
