Everest is an English film directed by Baltasar Kormákur. William Nicholson and Simon Beaufoy are the writers of the movie. The star cast of the film includes Jason Clarke, Josh Brolin, Jake Gyllenhaal, Keira Knightley, and Emily Watson.
The movie tells the story of two expeditions namely, Adventure Consultants and Mountain Madness whose aim is to climb Mount Everest in the following days. The climbers keep in touch with the base camp via walkie-talkies and Helen Wilton is the camp manager. The expedition begins on May 7th and they face many troubles during their journey. Will they succeed in their mission? The later part of the movie answers this question.
Everest is watchable at parts but gives you yawn more. The movie is overcrowded with unwanted characters which make the narration of the movie too slow. Even though it’s based on a true incident, the audiences are not in theaters to watch a documentary or something like that. The 3D effects were poor and it would have been even better if it was not shot in 3D.
I went to the theater with a lot of expectations after hearing positive reviews from my friends. I was deeply disappointed. For me Everest is a blank film which has no soul. It even lacks the minimum entertainment guarantee provided by some of the unsuccessful movies.
Gravity is the film which comes to my mind while reviewing this movie. I was super excited after hearing and reading overwhelming positive reviews both from my friends and critics. But I was not extremely happy with the movie and I consider it to be very overrated. This is the same felling which I had after watching Everest. I still wonder why many positive reviews keep pouring for the movie.
If you are a fan of slow paced documentary kind of movies, you can definitely watch Everest. But if you are looking for some kind of thrill, it’s not your cup of tea; it’s not mine.
