Poverty Increases Rent

Matthew Desmond considers a very strange financial situation. In his book Evicted: Poverty and Profit in the American City he examines a terrible problem with rent for poor and poorest inhabitants of the middle non-industrilised town in Wisconsin. The personnages of his work are woman. Single woman with their kids, you can add Afro-American for their full characteristics. The sum$ 400.000 a year impresses, because this is a revenue of one man, Tobin Charney, landowner. He receives this money from the rent of trailers, better to say hovels for poors as their dwellings. As known, the standard is that the rent should be no more 30% of your income. In contrast, for poor people, it composes 70%, and more. The paradox is that the money of government programmes to help poors such as welfare, tax credit, , disability benefits go directly to the landlord’s wallet. Desmond underlines the crucial role of housing as white prevelege. Milwaukee is one of the most segregated cities in the USA. All Afro-Americans suffer from rent discrimination and white people received a great benefit. Eviction hurts black woman hardest of all. I strongly recommend this book for future political and social leaders. It was read by me on line. Yours.
