We decided to take the kids to Florida and Disney for the first time Thanksgiving weekend. I spend 2 days looking and comparing online sites and trying to find a way that we could make the trip since this was a last minute trip (we decided to go a week prior to leaving) and had not saved any money for the trip.
Expedia had some of the lowest prices out there where we could see what we should be getting. We decided to stay at hotels in Nashville, Orlando and Marion, IL. The hotel in Nashville was great, awesome price and one of the better hotel rooms we had ever stayed in.
Orlando was a bit different, the rooms had just enough room for our 4 bags and the 4 of us, it was a good thing we didnt do anything but sleep there. We would drive around at night until we got tired just to stay out of that room. My feeling was there was no way this hotel was the one that I read about on expedia but it was.
On our way home we were thinking that at least we would get a a decent hotel again, oh man were we wrong. The hotel in Marion was missing huge areas of carpet, it wasnt even big enough for the 4 of us to sleep, the door didnt lock...the room was just nasty. My husband stayed awake all night just to make sure nothing happened. This could not be the hotel that was talked about on expedia.
What we learned from this experience is that Expedia can be a great resource (we took a week long trip to Florida, driving and got to do the things we wanted to and only spent $1400 including the rooms, food, rental car, attraction tickets and extras) but dont use their 2 or in some cases their 3 star hotels unless you know the hotel.
