A Project In Every Sense

Genre Progressive Rock

Evaluation Alan Parsons is indeed in every sense of the word, A Project. I can’t count how many guest singers he has had on his albums as they are just too numerous. And yet, with all the different styles of music he has written, all the different sounds, and all the different singers, he still manages to sound just like Alan Parsons. This is truly no small feat, but the man is an engineering genius. His songs range from driving to beautiful. Some of his lyrics are a little esoteric but you don’t listen to Alan Parsons for his https://lyrics. His albums are one of moods, many moods. They are kind of a schmorgasborg of cacophony. If you like variety and like to hear something a little bit different from your run of the mill ’’Boy gets girl, loses girl, blows his head off’’ kind of junk, then this album should be a pleasant surprise. Having said that, this album as all Alan Parson’s albums is not for everyone. If you’re looking for ’’hits’’ there’s not much. I will go over the hi-lights of the album that may appeal to the ’’average listener’’.

1) Eye In The Sky The title track is very pop and was a big hit. But this isn’t your standard Alan Parsons fare. If you expect the rest of the album to sound like this you are going to be very disappointed.

2)Silence And I A really nice melody on this one and after a couple of listens even easy to remember. This wasn’t a hit but it could have been a marginal one if the record company pushed it. This song is kind of an in between their pop stuff and their more unusual stuff.

3) Old And Wise This song is very similar in style to Silence And I. This is the most beautiful song on the album and also easy to remember after one or two listens. This one is my personal favorite. Another in between tune.

The rest of the songs need to be experienced. You will truly believe you are listening to different groups when listening to the rest of this album.

Bottom Line: The one group I can say Alan Parsons sounds closest to is the Moody Blues. If you’ve heard of them and like them then you should enjoy this album. There are a lot of similarities between the two. Again, this album is not for everyone but if you like what I call ’’mood music’’ and a nice variety in one album then this one should do nicely. If however you are interested in getting Alan Parson’s ’’hits’’ and they had plenty of them, then get their Definitive Collection, which unfortunately is not available on this site for review. For you hit seekers that album will satisfy your desire for ’’Ear Candy’’. However that is not what the real Alan Parsons is about, as you will hear upon first listen of this gem of an album. Enjoy!
