One spur of the moment can change your whole life, most often when someone else makes that decision for you.
Nora Roberts, unlike most other romance authors, is known for the strong and human women that she portrays, they are imperfect, have a temper you do not ever want to see, either average looking or attractive in their own right, but most of all they have and are an active part of their respective families, families that make you long to be a part of!
Here Callie Ann Dunbrook is no different, she is strong willed, impetuous, possesses a fiery temper, a heart of gold and a red Land Rover that she is extremely proud of!
Now to her family or should I say two families....
As a child she has been kidnapped from her stroller and sold to another couple who tried to have children, failing which they jump at the chance to raise a little girl as their own.
Meanwhile her birth mother who had turned away to attend to her older son just at the inopportune moment when her daughter is spirited away, is unable to forgive herself and starts a frenzied manhunt which little known to her will continue for about 30 years .
This is a story about people and their messed up/ mind blowing/ awkward/ out of this world relationships.
Its just amazing following Callie as she learns to deal with her parents, both the ones who gave her life and the ones who made a life for her, Her recalcitrant but- still-very-much-in-love-with-her Ex, the brother she always wanted and never knew, the townspeople who want her out and defame her car , all this against a background of a very important and much looked for archaeological find with the Baby Selling Racket thrown in for good measure!
This is one of those books which will make you laugh out loud( and get caught in class!), make you cry( which will confuse your friend when she is telling you a joke!),
and is totally un-put-downable!!!
There is no happy ending for everyone concerned, but when you do finish it you know that is the way it should be, and you are content....content enough to be happy for them.
Go ahead read it, it will not be a waste of either time or money.
