Fanaa touched my heart as long as I could identify myself with it.
Yes I felt like Zuni Ali Beg( Kajol) who goes to Delhi for a concert performance. I am in a new city now and I could see the anxiety of my parents in Rishi Kapur and Kiron Kher’s characters who play Zuni’s parents.
The dialogue also seems enjoyable till Rehan(Aamir) the guide arrives. From then on it becomes sher o shairi...sometimes taken out of the everyday Smses we get on our mobiles.
Aamir’s Rehan and his antics sometimes look like that out of a coke ad. But the actor even in this age looks in one word ’great’.
Its supposed to be Kajol’s comeback movie but it seems that she was never out of touch with her acting. It’s the same old Kajol, more beautiful and charming as ever.
Destroyed by love was supposed to be one of the promo lines of ’Fanaa’. But atleast a part of me was destroyed...Aamir dies at the end but I had died long before. It was actually a mass massacre in the Multiplex.
Kunal Kohli’s wonderful unity of story as in Humtum falls apart in Fanaa. The movie uses cliches over and over. Kajol suddenly gets her eyesight back(after an operation), Rehan transforms into a terrorist...Kajol and Aamir’s rain song.
Kajol’s rain wet chemistry with Shahrukh in ’Kuch kuch hota hai’ and Aamir and Rani in Ghulam’s ’aankhon se tune’ is too good compared to this rain song.

These are two fine actors being paired for the first time. They individually act well so does all but they come and go just like that.Rehan and Zuni meet in Delhi and we find the director using Mehrauli’s Qutub Minar location in a song with great prowess.
Rehan’s a guide and Zuni well she is for the time being a performer...Oooo Dev Anand, the charming Raju in ’Guide’ and Raja Aamir Hindusthani in the movie with the same name, Aamir is similar to none. That’s Aamir but the character fades too soon.
7 years pass by and suddenly the audience is left to digest the too fast transition of Rehan into a hard core terrorist wanting an azaad kashmir.
Too easily he steals the nuclear bomb trigger(is our security so bad). He is discovered also in a too superficial manner. His discovery as a terrorist is also not a shock for the audience who hardly feels Zuni’s pain. But Aamir looks great...
The songs are not well timed e.g The after marriage song is so tiresome.
Aamir’s character is hardly explored. The camera however captures the finer emotions too well.
Its not the first time that a someone has shot a near one in a bollywood movie.
Nargis shot her son(Sunil Dutt) in ’Mother India’, Anil Kapoor killed his brother in ’Viraasat’, Karishma shot brother Hrithik in ’Fizaa’, Sharukh and Madhuri kill each other in ’Anjaam’
But when Kajol shoots Aamir people look relieved...chalo movie to khatam huyi...!!!
Jatin and Lalit...the split it shows in the music.
A few days back there was another movie called Gangster where we came across a grey character who also was destroyed by love. It was still a pain that we felt in our hearts...but Aamir’s Rehan is neither a suave Mohammad 9/11 Atta or a Charles Sobhraj.
He fails as a lover, a father and a terrorist...he has nothing memorable.
There was one thing which I found sweet about the movie. Rishi Kapooor’s and Kiron Kher’s juxtaposed young pics and the old songs...
the light-hearted first part melts and rots in the later dragging part...I wish it was different.
