Great expectations....

I’ve watched Fanaa after reading a lot of reviews on Mouthshut.. from trusted people too. Most reviews were disappointing, and so I went to the theatre without any expectations. And to tell you frankly, I found the movie Fanaa worth a watch once. Maybe all of us had so much expectations on an Amir Khan-Kajol starrer that it was bound to disappoint us. But, Ive seen much worse movies which have received much better reviews in Mouthshut. Maybe its a personal opinion with which you might differ...

Well.. the problem with the movie is that it is not entirely believable.. There are so many sequences, which so many ppl have already described, which are unbelievable to the point of being Plainly ridiculous. But as I already didnt have any expectations, I had gone to the movie as a director’s bunny, ready to be convinced of anything.. And I came away quite happy with the experience..

So I would just list the pluses of the movie; reasons for which you should go out and watch the movie:::

1. Kajol: Maybe we had all forgotten that heroines are also capable of acting.. (leave BLACK out).. but kajol can make an unreal role believable with her expressions. And she does look gorgeus in the movie.. She looks even better when she is blind... What with the expressions of the eyes of a blind person looking so real..

2. Amir Khan: To all the detractors who said that Amir Khan looks old in the movie, all I would say that-- Did at any point the director claim that Amir Khan was a teenager or a person just out of college? Come on guys, an actor does get old too.. and most terrorists who have become so hardened would be nearing 40 atleast. To Amir’s credit, though his performance may not be the best of his career, it still has that Amir stamp on it... and he does show his love for kajol pretty nicely at all stages of the movie.

3. The kid: The kid is just loveable... and has been given pretty good lines too. You really feel for the kid at the end, when hez left with just his mother....

4. The locations: I would love to be surrounded by snow all the time..maybe its because of the searing heat that I am saying so.. but the locations are pretty awesome.

5. The songs: The songs are refreshing, though not great.. Not a single song has been thrust just to make Amir and Kajol dance together. And the rendition ’’Maulaaa’’ throughout the movie stays with you even after the movie....

So, if you are ready to wear the cloak of believability, ready to pardon Kunal Kohli for his wonderous coincidences and lack of authenticity.. and are just ready to appreciate two persons acting out of their skins, then do go watch Fanaa.

Lastly, I’d put it this way... I would have been much more disappointed if I would have not watched the movie... And I cannot say that for all movies, or even most of the movies...
