Something Missing

After much delay I was finally able to watch Fanaa.Well to be frank I have mixed feelings towards the movie. On all the technical aspects the movie scores like music(both background and playback), cinematography(I don’t know where they have shot the second half but it was delightful), the lyrics(Prasoon Pandey of RDB fame has scored another hit here) and last but not the least the performances by the lead cast Aamir and Kajol is just awesome.

The story begins promisingly with Zunni(Kajol) along with her friends travels to Delhi for some performance where she gets to meet Rehaan(Aamir) who is a travel guide.Zunni being a blind girl is not too optimistic about her chances of getting true love but she gets just that from Rehaan. The cajoling and patao act from aamir is too good with all those shayaris(which after a point of time looks overdone).Towards the end of the trip they make love and the day after Zunni is to leave for home. But overpowered by love Rehaan stops her and the she asks her parents to come to delhi where they can oversee their marriage. In the mean time she undergoes an operation and gets her sight back(Is it that simple). But once she opens her eyes Rehaan is nowhere to be found and she is informed that he has been killed in a blast in Delhi. That’s what is there in the first half which to be fair to the director was quite well orchestrated.

In the second half though we get to see the actual face of Rehaan who is the mastermind of a terrorist organisation in Kashmir and was in Delhi to finalize the action plan and execute the blast himself. He then is after a nuclear trigger which will enable his organisation to perfectly execute a nuclear attack. He gets it but then is hounded by the army and then lands up in Zunni’s house wounded and battered.Their feelings are rekindled in the presence of their son (the cute boy is a relief from all the seriousness around) and they get married. But towards the end things get quite messy when Zunni gets to know Rehaan’s actual work and wants to hand him over to the authorities disregarding her love and all that.

That just about sums it up.Nice different plot. But the terrorist part of Rehaan looks halfbaked.Bollywood has never been good at portraying terrorism except for Maniratnam’s Roja maybe. Kajol and Aamir carry the whole movie on their shoulders and perfectly portray the inner tussles of their characters quite well . The biggest con of the movie though is it’s about half an hour or 45 minutes too long. Some songs have been thrown in and seem to break the flow rather than aid it.

Hence It’s good if u watch it once.
