Finally the movie we have been waiting for!! Aamir and kajol for the first time as lovers on screen! First of all kudos to aamir for standing up for the poor...here is one actor who has a conscience!
Fanaa begins with a lots of expectations...it delivers on some but falls flat on others.
Kajol is the biggest attraction in this movie and she does her job splendidly...she has a finesse about her work that makes u forget u are watching a movie... and hers is the most carefully etched character in the whole movie.
On the other hand aamir plays a double role (of sorts). After almost the whole of first half hearing his shayaris.... suddenly out of the blue he becomes a cold blooded terrorist who happens to be the mastermind behind a group that would destroy the world..ok india! His character (?) is too complicated for even an actor of his calibre to comprehend. Why did he have to be such a big terrorist... just being a terrorist would have been good enough.
However the cinematography by ravi chandran is terrific, music by jatin lalit is good....chand sifarish being the best of the lot. But director kunal kohli loses track of the movie somewhere in the middle..... he would be making a love story at one point...a thriller at other times!
And yes as an ophthalmologist I need to clarify a few points... the doctor says as if today retina transplant is a common thing and he does it on kajol and lo and behold she gets her sight back!!My dear doctor... it is still in the EXPERIMENTAL STAGES... as it was 5 years ago. The doc could have said its an experimental surgery..we can try it on you..rest upar wale ke haath me hai!! Indian films should begin to get practical.
All said and done its a movie u should see once for the emotional torment both characters go thru...both are brilliant actors and its a treat to watch them perform... and behind all the glam the director tries to bring in (which destroys the mazaa in fanaa) lies a simple and beautiful story.
