I don’t think this is as well known a joint as it should be mainly due to its obscure location. I only came to know about it through a friend, the first look at whom will tell you - this guy loves his food. :-) Farshid’s although is located near the very well known Dhole Patil Road but actually lies in a very non-descript alley behind it. You wont even realize that something like a food joint is there till you actually climb up a few steps and open its main door.
But things are quite different once you are inside. With its richly colored interiors and soothing atmosphere you are bound to be surprised at the tiny amount of money the restaurant owner spent to make the joint noticeable from outside. Now that you are inside, dont go and bang yourself in the full height mirror on the left wall; the space is indeed very small but these guys used the old trick of mirroring the walls to make the space large...and it works well. On the right wall just after the entrance is a huge wall mural by famous Mario Miranda which depicts a dinner party. Best seating would be to the right hand corner of the place where you get to appreciate the tastefully done color scheme of the restaurant.
The whole place is aptly lit and fragrant with mouthwatering aroma. I would seriously not recommend anyone to go there if he/she doesnt like beer/alcohol. The reason is that they have the most wonderful of brass beer mugs and cocktail glasses you will generally find in a restaurant and they serve it with the sophistication it deserves. And they have an equally interesting drinks menu. So go ahead and spoil yourself. Beer in those mugs seems like something totally different.
The food menu ranges from pure Indian to Continental. And the USP is the sea food. Try ordering crabs for example - what you get in a few moments are a couple of live crawling crabs held by waiter next to you who will politely ask you which one sir?” So the food is absolutely fresh in its most literal sense. :-) The owner (Farshid) claims that all the sea food is procured the same morning from Mumbai and transported to Pune packed in ice. Truly this joint is a non vegetarians paradise. I must confess that I dont have much exposure to continental food but just by the look at the menu I can tell you that it ought to be one of the best locations in Pune for the same.
So if you looking to titillate your taste buds and perhaps wondering where to take your babe (who is hard to please) for an unforgettable evening...try this! You might even contemplate proposing her here. !! Just kidding...:-)
