The reason I really wanted to see this movie is all because of Madhur Bhandarkar. In the past he has mesmerized the audience with the inside stories of high end celebrities or street smart bar dancers or the dirty drama that goes in the Corporate world or about Beggars networking in Traffic signal. These movies has given us insight in many lives. I am sure after watching Traffic signal most of us may have either started or stopped giving money to these beggars. He has a knack of captivating his audience and leaving a thgought provoking message. That’s the reason I wanted to see Fashion since it was one of the most awaited movies of this year.
However with all my enthusiasm of knowing the behind the scene of those dazzling ramp walks I was glued to my seat. As the movie
began unfolding each character and the story I was a little disappointed. Which
I will elborate more later. Fashion revolves around the struggling model Meghna
Mathur(Priyanka C) & Shonali Gujral the Supermodel (kangana Ranaut) and of
course Janet(Mughda Godse) a B class model. It starts from Chandigarh where
Meghna dreams of becoming a supermodel. She lands in Mumbai with nothing but
her dreams. Her father(Raj babbar) opposes her idea. Anyways once she lands in
Mumbai she meets with a a guy who is a gay and is working as an assistant to a
known Fashion Designer. This guy helps her throughout her struggle. Then the
actual struggle begins. And of course like Page 3 Madhur has shown the
importance of Networking, where Meghna goes to quite a big parties. She unravels
the truth behind the scene. People more than often wear their face mask to hide
the truth behind. Yet she stays focussed to reach her Supermodel status. She encounters
some good and some bad experience. Then we have Shonali (kangana) who is into
drugs she is the Show stopper for most of the Fashion shows. She has really
stereotyped herself I must say. Same crazy woman acting with heavy dose of
drugs. Comeon give her a break someone. She has projected the snobbish
character who doesn’t care for anything. Her love life is a waste, as usual in
most of her movies. There is this big Model agency by name of Panash owned by known
industrialist Arbaz khan and his wife. Arbaz falls for Meghna and this makes
Shonali out of their agency leaving Meghna as the super model. Then what Meghna
discovers her power and throws her tantrums everywhere(predictable). In her
arragance she turns her back to her old good friends loosing everything for
nothing worth. And then the dirty games begin. Madhur has shown few real
instances or rather the ones media had
informed us all one was Carol Gracias dress malfunction & the other was a
famous model was found begging on the road, later her parents confessed that
she went missing and was taken to rehabilation. Then of course we have gay
fashion designers getting married to hide their trueself, to avoid society
pressure. How these struggling models are called for big parties and are paid
to just add glamour to these parties(eye candies).
Honestly while writing this review I realized what didn’t
impress me in this movie which is of course the story. It is so predictable
that it doesn’t make one sit and watch. Well atleast that happened with me. I did
expect a lot from this movie but they way Page 3 or Chandni bar was made, this
movie is nowhere close to it. Casting was ok, the actors would have still done
a better job. Somewhere I feel the direction wasn’t that great. Performance was
average. I did like 2 tracks from this movie out of one is the title track we
often see on music channels. Overall an average movie, story not so
captivating. It’s a one time watch movie.
Madhur Bhandarkar you would have still done a better
job.
