Fashion~Beautiful Music~

“Salim-Sulaiman” music composer duo has taken up the mantle to give a fashionable music for Madhur Bhandarkar’s lavish “Fashion”. They have been in the industry for long making background scores and have won many awards for the same. They got recognition as Music Directors from the movie’Kaal’ which was a big hit(only music, ;).

Salim, who sings quite often now, has this unconventional voice which he has used very judiciously in Mar Jaawan. Judiciously because some music directors ruin their own composition by their mismatched voice.

Before writing further, let me remind that the theme of this movie is “Fashion” and it would definitely have many ramp shows.

1. Fashion Ka Jalwa – The very first song and you start tapping your feet. Sukhwinder’s desi vocals give this basically a western music an Indian feel. Sukhwinder is ably supported on mike by Satya Hinduja and Robert Omulo. Frankly, I have heard these names for the first time. 3.5/5.0

  1. Mar Jaawan – Shruti Pathak and Salim Merchant gives this song a lounge affect. Great rendition. One of the best tracks of the album, this song will captivate your imagination. The lyric is good too. **4.5/5.0

3.Kuch Khaas – My dear Mohit Chauhan, you have become a regular on Bollywood music circuit these days. I am afraid that you might also be over used like Neeraj and lose the charm and uniqueness. A pleasant regular romantic number, though this will not be one of the Mohit’s best. Neha Bhasin is good too. **3.5/5.0

4.Aashiyana – Salim Merchant takes the onus on himself once again and comes out a winner. A beautiful soft rock and quite peppy. I have a feeling of “Heard it Somewhere”… “Kya Mujhe Pyar Hai.” from Gangster?(Let me know if I am correct). **3.0/5.0

5.Fashion Ka Jalwa(Remix) – I personally think the original is better. **3.25/5.0

6.Mar Jaawan(Remix)– A decent remix, makes the song more peppy.4.5/5.0*

  1. Kuch Khaas(Remix)– The remix is okay, though the remix was not required. May be they will use it on ramp. **3.25/5.0

8.Theme of Fashion(Remix) – The typical Medeival Punditz sound added to the original Theme. Surely would be used for the ramp. **3.0/5.0

9.Aashiyana(Remix) – The Remix by DJ Amyth is a notch above the original. **3.25/5.0

10.Theme of Fashion(Instrumental) – Good Use of Santoor, but again I think it is inspired by Rahul Sharma’s Time Machine. The song has a Trance feel and definitely a great piece of work. This again is the Ramp Music of the movie. **4.0/5.0

Overall a great Album by Salim-Sulaiman, the lyrics by Irfan Siddiui is good too. A must have album.*
