Fatty Momos - serious food casual look ! Driving on the Palm Beach last night, we happened to see a board reading Fatty Momos. We just felt let’s have some Momos, been a while since we had decent Momos. It’s only on being greeted & seated that we realized that it’s Serious business in here even though the place looked casual, ok a bit more than normal casual. As we decided our order on the somewhat extensive menu, we were served Amuse Bouche of lemon grass and sesame flavored shots, served very artistically.
The lady opted for Vegetarian Momos, as always. The server asked if we preferred mushrooms in the stuffing and will basil be preferred with the vegetables, and the lady declined both, just asked for ginger and chili to be added alongwith veggies. Served with twin sauces - hot chili garlic and soya cariander. Both were flavorful but not very hot.I ordered for Prawn tempura, took a long while to arrive and then it was just golden fried prawns. I had to ask for Wasabi and they served a mayo wasabi ketchup hot sauce mili-bhagat of sorts and was not at all appreciated. I insisted I needed pure wasabi, and then they got some of the green devil ? I tasted a little, it was sharp, and to have some fun asked the lady to try some and forewarned her to taste very little, even the very little for her could not be assumed. Her head flew back and forth, her eye glasses came off, she shaking in a frenzy as if possessed.
She wanted to have water, I told her don’t and you will be ok in a minute. And then her smiles returned.Saala Serr Ghumma Diya, was her first expression! I slowly enjoyed my prawns with wasabi, although it was fried in an oft used oil but wasabi kind of covered up the other off flavors. We had asked for a cold bottle of water, they served without checking that it was all ice inside and we were left to wait till it melted to sip Eau de vivre. The check was presented with a red scooter, nice look on the table, only that the scooter had the Union Jack, which I felt was a mismatch, since at the entrance the traditional red Chinese type globe lamp shades were hanging and interiors are done in Yellow and Black theme, even waiters dressed like that as also the Crockery had yellow and black design.
Dry candied ginger slices were served with the check on the scooter, that was interesting. Also some small chuski ( barf gola) was served as mouth freshner- great idea but it was Kala Namak and Lemon flavored that didn’t go well after an oriental style meal, well.! Veg Dimsums Rs 285/; Prawns Tempura Rs 425/( 6 pcs each) ;Water Rs 45/. Total bill Rs 793/- ( incl Of taxes) .
