Nostalgia - Childhood days are the best days in anyones life... . Given a chance, everyone would like to relive those days! The fun, the innocent mischieves, are somethings I wouldnt trade for anything in my life! When I think of my childhood days, I am reminded of the story books I read... and so, I unlock the attic in my room just to find the treasure of all the old issues of comics and books I had *(I never let my mom sell them off to the raddiwala... The pages have turned yellow, but the memory is still fresh...
There is a child in everyone of us.. (I think I am still a child...) And to enjoy life at its best, that child should be allowed to come out once in a while... So I went through my Treasure and I came up with a list of my favourite childhood books!!
Archie Comics
Set in the Riverdale Highschool, I can always relate my school with Archie and his gang... Mr. Weatherbee always reminded my of my school Principal. My favourite characters in these comics were Jughead and Moose!!!
Tinkle
My favourite comic strip here was Supandi, who can be very well related to Rishi Kapoor in Sheshnaag... the village idiot, the simpleton. I also liked Doob Doob the crocodile in Kalia, the crow.. loved his dumbness... The wolf and the croc were always after some rabbits, cheeku and meeku and the crow used to save them... I also loved Tinkle tells you why? column... I always used to search for the unanswered question Why do lizards stare?... but I never got it!
The Nancy Drew Series
Ahh.. Nancy Drew.. reminds me of Shivaji Satam in CID... The 18 year old detective.. with her friends Bess and George and boyfriend Ned could solve all the mysteries of the world...
The Famous Five Series
Julian, Dick, Anne, George and Timmy are the famous five... These series were by Enid Blyton and these five were a bit too much mystery prone.. The four were actually cousins.. and Timmy is Georges dog... Wherever they went, they found adventures...
Fairy Tales
I had these pop-up books... of fairy tales.. of Cindrella and Snow White. Everyone knows their stories.. So, I dont need to tell much on these books!
Champak
This is published in many regional languages.. and I had my subscription in Gujarati language... It had some silly picture stories.. like Raju and the Squirrel, Cheeku, etc. etc. It also had the jokes section, but now when I read them, I dont think that these can be considered jokes too!!.. But it was fun at that time..
Miscellaneous
Apart from these, I also read some sensible books like Little Women, which was about the March Family. Its about how the girls grow more mature within a span of one year... I really would love if Ted and Jo would have married!... 7 Habits of Highly Effective Teens by Sean Covey.. Though I dont really follow these habits.. But whenever I read this this book, I feel motivated... and it lasts for an hour.. and then, Im back to pavilion...
Anyways, though these are my favourite childhood books, I still love to read them... I have read them umpteen number of times... and still I never get tired of them!
