Reading has always been a hobby. My parents often recount how even as a toddler I would sit with some book peering into it and trying to make sense of the scrawls.LOL
And as I commenced reading in school, I started lapping up all the text books and picture books which my parents often bought me. Slowly I graduated to more wholesome reading along with comic books and picture magazines.
Since I have to currently just list the 5 books which were my favourite in my childhood, I guess I will have to do a lot of contemplations. I had a lot of favourites. I still have a lot of these books in tip top condition and as and when time permits, I do re-read these books.
So here come my list.(hope we have a lot in common)
1: Amar Chitra Katha: these are my favourites even today. Right from Mythology to biographies to folk tales and stories. everything in picture form.
2: Indrajal Comics: I still remember the good ol days of Phantom, Bahadur and Mandrake. Unfortunately, today Indrajal is no more.:-( I still wish I had stored all of my indrajals.(I had then traded them with my classmates for some other trivia.)
3: Richie Rich: Yup thePoor Little Rich Boy. I just adored him. I loved his yellow hair and I loved his simplicity in that filthy richness. As a child I would often pretend that I was Richie Rich and would find diamonds and precious material. What a pity I do not own even one copy of these wonderful comics.(I used to read them in my local library then)
4: William Series: Heard of these? These were a series of books by Richmond Crompton. The main character was a British lad as naughty and funny as children are at that age between 9 - 12. I loved reading those books.(Shh. dont tell anyone plzz. but I managed to flick one from my friend. But that she didnt miss it is another stroke of luck.)
5: Malory Tower Series: These famous series by the famous authoress Enid Blyton were a great hit with me. I loved the Boarding school and the characters in the series. At that time I was totally convinced that there did exist a realMalory Towers and pestered my mom a lot to send me there. Somehow the life in boarding school was so idealized and magnetic then. Today As I reflect back, I do realize that we do need schools like the one in those series.
Ahahaaaaaa. There I have managed to compress my list of favourites. Not a great literary attempt though.
Pals, dont be surprised if at a later date I do update my list!:-)
