As one flips across the pages of the magazine, one distinctly gets the impression that this is less to do with the Woman of Substance and more to do with the woman of form. Womanhood is so complex an existence- it is defined not merely by fashion, but by the multi- faceted persona of a woman, be it as a wife, mother, sister, daughter or the hard nosed business person/ professional. But as is typical of the times that exist now, Femina chooses to hit the beaten track of highlighting glamour as the key tool to a successful life, sidelining other equally important skills such as patience, positive attitude and a pleasing disposition....
And please, one is not buying the story doled out to us that glamour helps to comprehensively add value to an individual( read as girl or woman). While one does concede that a smart appearance is important, we can do without excesses in our everyday life. For years now, and especially since the post- beauty pageant boom, beauty is packaged as a concept that starts with a womans anatomy and stays there, moving no further. So, is the underlying message that, if you are not upto it, you may cease to live???!
So, Femina, grow up, add some genuine substance to the cause of the fairer sex.
Is anybody listening????
