Drop dead gorgeous. All the you’d want and more - to excite. A car that’ll surely feel like you’ve made a great decision. For 9 lakhs on the road you get a 15 lakh or more car. HOWEVER. BUT. NEVERTHELESS. THERE’S ONE LITTLE THING. IF ONLY. the engine on the diesel is incredibly sluggish. Take a climb, an uphill ride, a stop and go traffic - and there will be a lot of grunts and groans - a bit more noisy than desirable, a lot slower than it could be. Every car needs a beast of an engine inside - and for this beauty it’s just not there.
I hate the fact that I’m not buying this car because of that one fact - but that can be good enough. A tragic flaw - that can be quite a nag. If only Fiat had a version with a tad more power - even if it was a lakh more - I would’ve surely bought it. Such a great car - such an inadequate engine.
Of course I see a lot of people say - I not a drag racer - common in this time and age you don’t want a car that reminds you of your dad’s Ambassador.
The same engine on the Swift Desire - makes a lot more sense. If its vanity you want go for the Linea. But be ready for a life of woe - you will stress the car very hard - and things could go very wrong. A senior service engineer as telling me about how clutch plates can be a casuality. If it’s realiability and all that you need - the Desire anyday.
