Title : Pragmatic Decision

Review :

I am Prof Sukesh Kumar and I Own a Palio 1.9 D Elx which I purchased on 28th July 2004.

My usage is not too high to warrant a Diesel nor it is too less to Go for a Petrol. I drive 25-30 km/day. I stll went ahead with a Diesel car

I have read that diesel engines are environmental friendly than petrol because they emit CO2 instead of CO which eats ozone layer. CO2 in presence of water and sunlight Gives Glucose and Oxygen as a chemical reaction ( Photosynthesis).

I am a Mechanical engineer and I do understand car engines reasonably well. I went through a 2-3 months evaluation process before deciding on Palio Diesel.

In fact, following decisions accelerated my decisions by narrowing down the choice sets.

  1. I found Mr Srinivasan and Mr Tilak Ram of Sundaram Bangalore very pleasant and Honest. They did not promise unrealistic milage or free accessories. I had 3 to 4 test drives before I paid my initial deposit. There was no coersion

  2. Ambience at Sundaram Motors was sounding honest with Indian classical Music. Many may not agree with this but ’’believe you me that I would’’. I consider service scape very important in decision making.

  3. They encouraged me to visit competitor

  4. I also read that, though Fiat patented CRDI, they have not used this in this car because they were not sure of Complementary technology ( Diesel quality)

  5. I had seen Fiat assembly plant at Turin Italy and I was convinced of their capability.

  6. My young son liked this, My wife and I , surprisingly agreed on this instantaneously.

What I dislike:

  1. I did face some minor problems regarding functioning of wipers and Battery but this was set right to my satisfaction. Diesel engine noise prevalent in all Diesel cars is exisitng in Palio as well .

  2. I wonder why no enterpreneur is coming forward to take fiat India forward and offer competitive prices. Ratan Tata could solve his engine technology problem and Fiat would comeout of lack of volume problem by this marriage in my opinion
