The FIFA World Cup 2006 lost yet another team that was looking promising. The sad departure of Argentina has set the ball rolling for the World Cup semifinals and after yesterday’s Results we have come to know one Semi-Final fixture i.e. between Germany & Italy.
The way Argentina displayed it’s football skill was more than appreciable but they made some very stupid mistakes that finally led to their departure from the WC in which they had a dream start.
The Good:
There were many things good about Argentina , the way they showed their determination made everyone to take them the hot favourites for the World Cup. Their passing was simply phenomenal and no second thoughts about their tackling and dribbling. The team looked absolutely in control when it came to the co-ordination between the players. It had all the flair which a football lover looks for. Riquelme and Crespo were finest among all the players , while Rodriguez had the best goal of the tournament in his name(which he did against Mexico in extra Time). Tevez showed that he had all the qualities which are needed to become a star.
The Bad:
Pace , that’s what all which Argentina lacked. To play complete football a team should be sound in five departments.
1.Passing
2.Dribbling
3.Co-ordination
4.Finishing
5.Pace
Argentina had all four of the above but were absolutely pathetic in their pace. They were so slow in the mid field that most of the times it forced them to pass the ball back to the goal keeper. Moreover the lack of pace made them very poor in counter attacking and the result of that was seen yesterday in which Hosts who were definitely not at their best but still made plenty of chances and finally converted one of them into goal.
The Ugly:
Coach Pekerman , the ugly face of Argentines came forward when some unintelligent decisions was made by him. It’s hard to believe that just a 1-0 lead made the coach so much confident about his team’s victory that he replaced two of his best players , Crespo and Riquelme. More shocking was that star player Lionel Messi wasn’t even used. What the hell the coach was thinking. Now, if someone says that Crespo and Riquelme got tired then it has surely got to be a lame excuse , in such a big event that comes after four years & in a situation like this when anything could have happened Pekerman was thinking of saving the match?
Another most sad part was “The mess of Messi” , a player with so much caliber , a player who has become the backbone of his club wasn’t considered worthy to be included in the starting eleven. It was absolutely shocking. Moreover team had a very poor goalkeeper (both the main and substitute) and this certainly looked neglected department by the Argentine coach which costed him dearly.
All I can hope is to relish the magic of this team with more pace and better coach in next big event like Copa America or maybe 2010 World Cup.
Italy and Brazil still the best:
After watching yesterday’s match between Italy and Ukraine , one thing is for sure that Azzuris are slowly but surely coming up and might prove lethal to Germans in their next encounter. They showed far more brilliance as compared to their other matches. The way they controlled Czechs and held on with 10 men against Australia certainly makes them look devastating.
While five times champion Brazil holds on their claim to retain the title. I think their match against Japan was the best and if this Samba team comes up with their magic then one would be able to stand in front of them.
ITALY vs *GERMANY
*This could turn out to be another match of the tournament.
What a clash!!!!!!!!!!!!1
Two former allies of World War-II
