Fight it out!!!

Someone said that ’’It is good that we experience pain sometimes, it makes us realize that we are still alive’’.

How many times is it that we feel real pain, or get a real sleep. In this day and age where life has become more of a routine than of a living, people are on the lookout of the real pain maybe subconsciously calling it as the need for real challenge, real job, real work alas...men will not at all be satisfied with what they have got!!!.

The Movie

Fight Club begins with the narration from one such man , Jack(Edward Norton) who is bored of his routine job as a an employee of an automobile manufacturer and is suffering from insomnia. He consults a doctor for treatment, stating the reason that he is in pain, pain of not experiencing any pain, a routine life , a routine living...

The doctor gives a laugh at him, what pain are you talking about ??? You wish to look for the real pain , then go and visit the testicular cancer group, and see the pain they are in.

And bingo! he thinks of it and gives it a try..cries with all the people at the support group and experiences their pain.

As it is said, when we cry, we feel lighter both at heart and at the mind, and he has got a ’’temporary’’ treatment for his insomnia and he sleeps because he cries, because he experiences pain!!.

But then like all good things that happen with good and bad peple alike, enter Marla..(Helena Carter)..she is from the same group as that of jack albeit she comes to support group for more as a timepass or as a hobby rather than for ’’treatment’’ for any disease, if at all it can be called so .Now Jack cannot cry because he is aware of Marla which makes him aware of his guilt , he tries to change the support groups, but incidentally he witnesses the presence of Marla wherever he goes!

One fine day, unable to bear the monotony of even the support groups he tries to fly away from them too . Then on a flight to his native place , he meets Tyler......., who makes soaps for his living. Here the movie takes grip..

Jack when arriving to his home notices that his house has caught fire and is left with nothing .He tries to call Marla for help to get a dwelling which goes in vain..then he remembers the card of Tyler. He calls him and arranges for a meeting in a bar.Just outside the bar, Tyler asks Jack to hit him, when Jack could not do that , Tyler hits Jack hard and then both hit each other for a while and then both start to like this ’’sport’’ of experiencing pain with consent without guilt.

Slowly people start to catch this hitting spree on the roadside and start to join the club of these two and thus comes into being the ’’Fight Club’’ who have the first rule to not to talk of FightClub.

Fightclub starts as a simple group of hard hitting guys , but then Tyler has something in his mind....he spreads the network all over America and masterminds many terrorist like activities..

There is twist to it , Tyler traps Jack into these and portrays Jack as the mastermind behind all these..err ...actually this is not the twist !!!

Jack realising this tries to follow Tyler wherever he goes or has gone only to be welcomed by Fightclub members calling him or seeing him as the Boss...

How does Jack catch hold of Tyler , how does Jack get rid of FightClub and how does Jack get rid of Tyler is the climax of the story....and at the last 15 minutes is the twist to the story nobody can expect..and this is what makes the movie one of the top one to watch...

Cinematography is excellent, screenplay is gripping eventhough the first 15 minutes lacks the flow.Sound effects during the fights is great.

Direction by David Fincher is first rate.He also directed Pitt in Seven.Eventhough , what he actually wished to convey through this movie is subject to interpretations. My review is one such interpretation.

Coming to the star cast...Brad Pitt as Tyler is apt , does it with style.Helena Carter as Marla is okay...she fills the gap and fulfills the feminine requirement for any movie...

One person who stands out in the movie is Ed Norton as Jack..it is a great performance from him as an aimless and sleepless guy in the beginning, a cool fighter in the middle and a confused person during the end...there are some scenes which just make you laugh like when Jack runs in a bermuda all along the road escaping from his boss and makes you cry about his helplessness in not preventing what he is trying to prevent.

Overall a good movie worth a watch..atleast for Edward Norton.
