Since ages, awards have been a source of inspiration for any one, whether you are in media, films, IT or any industries. But sadly awards functions have become the source of fame and fortune for few. Whether Zdnetindia.com gives Rolta net as the best ISP or Shahrukh Khan wins an award for his pathetic performance in Ram Jane.
Now, as we are speaking for films and that too Hindi movies, we as a normal consumer have taken Filmfare as the main awards and some of them take it of outmost importance. We have seen filmfare awards over the years degrading itself with absolute favoritism and awards for the few families in the Bollywood arena.
War Behind Awards
Filmfare award not only increases the price value of the Actor or the Actress, it also gives him an extra edge over his counter part in getting roles. Now, we have so many awards, its really common that it has become not a fight of Actors or Actress; it’s become a fight of the Media, whether Indian Express promoted Screen Awards or Times of India group’s Filmfare. But now, we have a new war it’s become a war of Television, whether its Zee Cine Awards or Sony’s Filmfare Award or Star’s Screen Award.
We have lot of lobbying not only in India but also in the much-awaited Oscar’s. From all this award jungle we are forgetting our government nominated National Awards which till lately have become a force of which has again become a lobby of few people. Can you believe Anil Kapoor and Raveena getting awards for a commercial film wherein you had actors from regional films doing a far better role than these actors?
Actually, I really don’t know how much does a people like you and me have a role in the so-called Popular Awards. Because they say popular awards are based on the peoples votes and the Movies box office result. If that is the case, Chandni Bar was a far better film than Asoka in terms of popularity why wasn’t it nominated for Best film or Best Director at the recently concluded Filmfare. It’s become more like Ripley’s Believe it or Not, wherein you can see Kajol taking away the award and not Tabu for her superlative performance in Chandni Bar.
So lets take a sneak preview of people behind this so called Rigged award of Indian Film industry.
Filmfare Award
Bennett, Coleman & Co. Ltd, are the chief promoters of this Award. Times of India group has always been a biased group even their newspaper has become a source of fame by way of their concentration on Socialite group drinking and dancing at the various parties. Their was a time when Filmfare awards were held at Shanmukhananda Hall, at Sion which was like the event with who’s of who’s of the Hindi films attending. It did have lot of bias in those times too, but now the level has increased with 2 folds in the last decade or so. Filmfare awards now a days have become an award functions for Chopra’s, SRK. Johar’s & Kapoors. Are Hindi films all about these families? Filmfare has become a source of revenue generation for Sony and Times of India group by way of sponsorships and advertisement.
Do we need these kinds of awards, which have become the source of Fame for few individuals?
Ray Awards for India
Awards need to follow some properly made out procedures, which are very important for the Hindi film industry. Instead of Filmfare and Screen giving out awards can’t we have awards given by the Indian Film Association, which are based on absolute flawless procedure? Like the Oscars, Indian films should have an Award based on Satayjit Ray who was an Institutional in himself.
Even the critics awards are absolutely rigged, I feel, can you believe SRK winning Critics awards for Mohabbatein last year. Absolutely ridiculous isn’t it! This is what we normal consumer feel when we see these things happening in Worlds biggest film industry.
People Behind Awards
Its not that we don’t have caliber people in this Industry, people like Nasseruddin Shah, Om Puri, who have got international recognition should be made jury members who can at least judge the films. We don’t need international panels in our awards, we need Indians and with International Exposure who understands the technicality of these awards being given. Can Khaled Mohammed be included in Critics Jury, NO will be the big answer, this is the same guy, who had give 5 stars for a movie like K3G and 4 stars to Lagaan.
Remove Entertainment Weekly’s out…
Why do we need Entertainment Magazine like Filmfare and Screen giving out awards which, is nothing but a source of revenue and popularity for these magazines. These awards have become nothing but a place awards are being sold and bought. Really, its sad, that we are being bombarded every where by Filmfare, whether its on Indiatimes or The Times of India, every where you see is Filmfare awards and we like for God Sake we need to see this award because Kareena is going to dance on the show or Hiritik is going to show his biceps in the show.
I may be one in a million who is shouting, but lets pray that in future some one will come forward and change this AWARD BAZAR
