FilmFare Awards 2003

ppl who’ve read this already, can u plz tell me how to move a revu 4m one category to another? Thnx :)

I was eager to watch filmfare awards this year, without any particular reason. I thought...lets see if Shahrukh wins an award this year too :)

So the show started with Archana Puran Singh hosting the award function. She, far from being an entertaining hostess, was busy cracking !!PJs !!! Ruined the show from its very start.

The first event, was not a presentation of awrds, but, a dance performance by Isha Kopikar. Though I have serious doubts about it being a Dance performance as such, coz it seemed more like aerobics to me. No no, let me correct myself, aerobics is even enjoyable, THIS was something else.!

Then it was time for the technical awards to be announced. Here’s the list: (I’m including the names of the films only, not the people)

Best Sound: Bhoot

This round of awards was followed by a performance by John Abraham and Bipasha Basu. I thought, okay, this would be better than Isha Kopikar’s , atleast John Abraham would be watchable!!!

Wow! How wrong could I have been!

John, sporting a Tere Naam Sallu look with those hair falling all over the face, turned himself from eye candy to gooey candy!!(You get what I mean right? He was simply unwatchable!) The steps were robot like, as was the previous one. Bipasha was okay...nothing special to write about...

THEN !! (drumbeats!) entered, Saif Ali Khan and <3 Shahrukh Khan <3. And isse badi khushi ki baat yeh thi, that Archana Puran Singh left, for the time being atleast.! Thank God!

Saif and Shahrukh, had me in splits! I ROTFL all the way! Sample this:

SRK: We are the most responsible people in the film industry. Thats why they invited us here

Saif: Ya..everytime something goes wrong, we’re responsible!

LOLOLOL

SRK: Vivek ur great, we can’t act like you, we can’t dance like you! We can’t even look like you!

Saif: And thank God for that!!!

Those were just a few of their jokes! If it hadnt been for them, I don’t know how longer I would have been able to tolerate Archana !!

The scene of the year award was up next!

And guess who won it! Kal Ho Naa Ho for Aman’s dying scene in the hospital with Rohit. HOW HOW HOW! That was one of Shahrukh’s worst acting performance! Saif was okay..but still! That scene certainly did not deserve to win BEST SCENE OF THE YEAR AWARD for goodness’ sake!

Moving on, a few more awards were given out:

Lifetime achievement award (the mother of all awards) to the mothers of all Hindi movies: Sulochana and Nirupa Roy .

RD Burman Award: Vishal-Shekhar for Jhankaar Beats.

This was followed by a performance by Fardeen Khan on songs from Janasheen....mediocre to say the least.

Filmfare instituted a couple of new awards this year, the first being the Motorola MotoLook award for a new look sported by any actor in the year. The nominees were:

Preity for her boring bespectacled look..(lol)

Saif for his manhattanmumbai combined look

Salman Khan for his oh so hideous look! lol

Kareina for her Kitsch look in Chameli

And! Hold your breath: Feroze khan for his c’est abominable look in janasheen. (Was that french right? correct me if its wrong..i was just experimenting)

Who won? The most deserving person of course: SAIF ALI KHAN!!!

And no! The awrds aren’t fixed. Nothing is fixed here at filmfare. Even the dance performances have been put together haphazardly, Nothing was fixed! (hehe, guess the source of this joke!)

Saif goes like : You know what I thought Lagaan was? A bengali song in France. La gaan (I guess my fellow bengali MSians wud get this one!)

And coming back to the awards:

Best Female Playback singer: Shreya Ghoshal for a song from Jism, I don’t remember which one.

Saif and SRK were continuing their Kantaben jokes all thru the show, end mein to kuchh zyaada hee ho gaya...!

Best Lyrics awards went to who else but Javed Akhtar for what else bu Kal Ho Naa Ho.

Saif: Best music award award humein milna chahiye. Is show ka Band jo bajaa rahein hain!

It went to Shankar Ehsaan and Loy for KHNH (I’m getting tired of taking KHNH’s name so many times!)

Best Debutante (female) went to Lara Dutta and Priyanka Chopra. (EEEEEKS!!)

It was time for Saif and SRK to leave, but certainly not before cracking their last Kantaben joke:

A skit on KHNH. Aman’s dying scene, Rohit’s sititng besides him, Naina’s outside.

Aman: Waada karo tum agle janam mein bhi itna hee pyar karoge

Rohit: haan

Aman: itne hee sachhe dil se...and so on and on and on and so forth....

Rohit: ya..ya..yep...yes...

Aman:Naina bahar hai na?

Rohit: Haan

Aman: Ab main sona chahta hoon.

Rohit: theek hai, main jaata hoon

Aman: Arre! Tumhare saath sona chahta hoon!!

EEKs kya joke tha!I know PJ tha and and there’s no reason for me to relate it to you, but, haha, why shud only I suffer from such pjs!

Anyways, after that skit, archana puran singh made a re-entry (much to my horror!!)

A second Lifetime achievement award was bestowed on B.R. Chopra.

Kareena Kapoor gave a performance on her sis Karishma’s old movie songs...yea.. the early nineties songs of the repulsive type!

She was dressed in a saree, which gave the impression that she wasn’t really keen on getting out of her chameli-kitschy look!

All through her dance, the cam was focusing on Shahid Kapur more than on Kareena herself. Wonder why ;)

Okay. So the best supporting actress award went to Jaya Bachhan

Best supporting actor: SAIF ALI KHAN! :D (2 awards in 1 nite!)

Now, they dropped a bomb on us! Kareina, yes, THE one and only Kareina Kapoor got a special performance award for chameli!

And this is what he had to say on it

’’Special award will always be special and because the movie was very special for me. Filmfare awards are always special, and this is a truly really special feeling! ’’

And you thought Bush was the expert at such comments!

A new award this year, was the Filmfare power award, which went to Amitabh Bachhan and SHAHRUKH KHAN!! (ya hoo!)

Critics Awards:

Film: Munnabhai MBBS

Actor: Hrithik Roshan

Actress: Urmila Matondkar

The popular awards:

Best Film: Koi Mil Gaya

Director: Rakesh Roshan’

Actress: Preity!

Actor: Hrithik Roshan

Hrithik got 2 best actor awards in 1 function. weird! :D

Frankly, I was disappointed when they announced Hrithik’s name for best actor and not Shahrukh’s.

But it was okay because of two reasons:

1. Hrithik’s acting was SUPERB.

   
   




2. Shahrukh wasn’t gud in KHNH!

   
   

I was just hoping he would win coz I’m a true, loyal fan! a cooler! NO! An AC! of his! lol

Anyways, at least he got the power award!! :D
