A movie succeeds when it has an ‘Impact’. When you go to a horror movie and come out only laughing, it means the movie fails miserably. But this movie ‘Final destination 2’ has that ‘impact’ written all over it. I finished watching both the final destination 1 & 2 on the trot yesterday and today every object I saw and I felt had a meaning attached to it. It took around half a day to get out from the spell created by this movie! This supernatural thriller is one of the very good movies I have seen of this genre. If final destination-1 was good this second part was still better.
Being a clear sequel to final destination-1, the story is well stitched with the sequences of the first part. I believe you could watch this second part, even without watching the first one, as it is not the story that thrills, but it is the screenplay of the move that will make you fall down from the edge of your seat.
As said earlier the story is not so special, with just series of deaths. But there has been so much of thought and thinking put into the way the deaths happen and the way they are pictured. But the movie fails to stick to either supernatural or natural deaths. Guess the director got himself confused here, but he sure has a special affinity for decapitating. The theme of the movie is that, there are signs around that signal our end and it is our call to identify them and cheat our destiny to live. And the protagonist sees this signs and tries to escape death. Whether or not, she succeeds is the story line.
The youthful cast adds verve to the movie. Scenic outdoor locations like a grand highway make the movie more watch able. Usually thriller movies tend to restrict most of the scenes into enclosed spaces to give the eerie effect. But this movie breaks those conventions.
On the negative side, the number of murders that happen is so high and the pace at which they happen is amazingly fast, that you will make up your mind that the characters will definitely die. This predictability is a small drawback. Few logical flaws here and there will raise few doubts in your mind, but all these will get buried at the pace of this movie.
The final verdict: Must watch movie. Watch this movie alone and I am pretty sure it will have the ‘impact’ on you.
