This Story is about a Famous writer,
William Forrester.(Sean Connery)
He has written only one Book, and it won a Pulitzer prize..
The writer has vanished from sight, and become a Recluse.
He spends his life living in a Dingy,
Book Cluttered apartment..
in New York City.
His only link with the outside world, is spying through
Binoculars at the young Black Teens,
playing basketball across the street..
One of the young men, Jamal Wallace, (Robert Brown)
is the focal point of the Movie!
Jamal is a Brilliant Student, and a good Basketball player..
He tries to keep his academic prowess from his buddies,
as he wants to fit in with the group!
He comes from a close family, he has a Mother,
and one older brother..
Jamal and his pals, are aware of the strange man in the window,
staring at them, as they play ball!
One day they decide to take a risk, sneak into his apartment
and bring back a token, as proof that this was done!
Jamal is elected to climb the Fire escape,
and bring something back..
Jamal gets into the apartment through the window,
gets spooked, and runs..Leaving behind his Backpack..
The next day, Jamal looks up,
and his Backpack is hanging from the window..
Jamal decides he will go on up,
and get his Backpack.
He knocks on the door, and after sometime,
an Angry Man.. Opens the door!.
As time passes, they get over the bad start..
The Recluse become the Friend, and teacher of Jamal..
He realizes that Jamal has a Good chance at being a writer,
and agrees to help him in that endeavor..

They feel that he would be an asset,
to the school, and he could help the Basketball team win...
Jamal attends the school, and is given a book to review,
The photo, of his new Friend/teacher is on the cover..
Untill now, Jamal had not realized that this man,
was a famous Pulitzer Prize Author..
He tries to question the man , but the man,
has no interest in talking about what had happened to him,
That has brought him to this point..
Jamal has his ups and downs in his new School..
He wonders if he has only been brought there,
to Play Ball!
He has some racial things to overcome,
but he does make a friend of a young lady,
She is the daughter of the Principle..
Through a series of happenings,
Jamal manages to get this recluse, out of his apartment..
And to take a trip back to his homeland, Scotland.
Jamal is taught by Forrester, that he can overcome
anything.. And be a success..
Forrester learns, that even though life
is not always fair, You have to get out there,
and keep on living..
Because that is ALL YOU HAVE!!
