This is my second review on the John Grisham series and this novel is the meatiest of all of the ones till now.
What happens when a multidollar dream turns into a life threatening nightmare? What happens when a young couple, madly in love, cant even say I love You, without someone overhearing it? What happens when you cant differentiate between those who are helping you and those killing you? What happens when the FBI DIRECTOR is as interested in you as the MAFIA is? What happens when one of the Brightest of lawyers joins the Sleaziest of Law Firms? .......
All this and much more covers the plot of John Grishams The Firm. Mitch is a bright lawyer joining a small Law firm because of the money and the fads they show him. But soon he finds that even the FBI is interested in him, as they try to get him to the evidences that link the firm with a Mafia gang. Will Mitch help the FBI? Will the Firm come to know of what Mitch is doing? Will they hand him the same fate as the 5 other ex - lawyers, whose photos hang in their firms Library under the May your Soul Rest in Peace Banner?
Ohh Man, this is one novel that I really loved reading. The delicate balance between what Mitch does and what the Firms knows makes it a tightrope walk for every reader. The novel depicts a very realistic scene for a young tax lawyer in the US. High salary expectations, job profiles, mortgages, educational loans, the scenario is comparable to the MBA scenario out in India. The Interview scene is one of the best pieces of starting peices I have read for a long time.
The climax is where the author loses a little stream and the story of his mother was not required. The author could have either put more meat into that part or removed it totally. The same is the case with his Brothers role.
On the same vein, I should admit that all other characters are well depicted, from the Firms MD, the secuity officer, his assistant, his boss .... every role explained in the exact detail .....
Please make sure that you add this book to your collection .....
