The fabulous feedback that I got after writing about the top divas acted as a booster, and I couldn’t help but write about the top heroes of Bollywood.
I must tell you that there is no dearth of good heroes in Bollywood. Almost all of them have proved their worth atleast once, so it was a really tough job to pick out just five of them. I fondled with the thought of many actors, and came up with five of those actors who I loved in more than 10 films, who I think won’t be ignored if an epic on Bollywood is ever written. All the five actors I have listed below have many things in common: They are the most dependable, versatile and respected artistes in the film circuit today (They are good looking as well!!!). Thanks to their long career-spans and innumerable hits, there’s this dependability and sheer entertainment value that I associate with them and it’s the reason why I still wait with bated breath for their upcoming films....There’s very little that separates these five heroes and I gave the positions straight from my heart..
So here I go....
#5: Sunny Deol: Asli Punjab da puttar
#4: Sanjay Dutt: Controversially (but sincerely) yours
#3: Anil Kapoor: The uncrowned baadshah
FOR SYNOPSIS ON ANIL, SANJAY AND SUNNY, SEE COMMENTS SECTION PLEASE (SORRY, BUT THERE WAS NO OTHER OPTION LEFT!!)
#2: Aamir Khan: Perfectionist to the core
Where do I start from, Aamir’s one of those actors who has left me spell-bound with his thought-provoking acting. There’s so much articulation and so much perfection in his style of acting, that he turns watchable movies into good and good movies to classics. What’s different about him is that he hasn’t got any specific style or body-language, he’s like a chameleon...in every film you see a completely different Aamir, and that he’s excellent in whatever he does is for everybody to see...One of his directors, Dharmesh Darshan has rightly commented—’10 years from now, Aamir will be known as a legend’. Very rightly said...
Let’s have a look at Aamir’s career:
Aamir started off as a child artiste in the superhit ‘Yaadon Ki Baaraat’ in 1974, and made his debut alongwith Juhi Chawla in 1988 with Qayamat Se Qayamat Tak. Both of them became stars overnight thanks to the raw charm and vulnerability they exuded. 1989 saw Aamir in two average films-Awwal Number and Love Love Love, but it was in 1990 that Aamir got his second superhit Dil and first Best Actor trophy. From 1990-2001, Aamir has delivered a memorable film every year. In 1991, he gave Dil Hai Ki Manta Nahin, in 1992 came the superhit college campus film—Jo Jeeta Wohi Sikandar. 1993 brought along the comic hit Hum Hain Rahi Pyaar Ke and 1994 had him in another memorable laugh riot Andaz Apna Apna. 1995 had him trying his hand at something different with Rangeela and Akele Hum Akele Tum while 1996 brought with it Raja Hindustani. Even more cherished performances came in the latter years like Ghulam, Sarfarosh and lastly, two of his best performances ever—Lagaan and Dil Chahta Hai. Aamir’s gone into a short hibernation period but will strike back very soon...Keep waiting!!!!

#1: Shahrukh Khan: Loverboy unlimited
If there’s one actor that I was mad at even before he came into films, it was Shahrukh. I still remember him in a serial called ‘Fauji’ and must say that he was the only thing in that serial to watch for. There’s always this raw energy that I associate with Shahrukh....be it when he’s playing a bad guy, a joker or a lover...there’s a certain madness and spontaneity that he exudes and it just comes across magically on screen...Shahrukh has ruled the 90s like no other actor...he might not be as articulate as Aamir or Anil, but he has got this unique style and body language that he imparts to every character he plays...Be it awards, fans, super-hits, critical acclaim—Shahrukh has had it all in aplenty. If there’s one word that I could describe him, it would be: LIVEWIRE!!!!!!
Shahrukh started off with a non-starter film called ‘Dil Aashna Hai’ but surprisingly got noticed and was signed by big directors readily. 1992, his second year in the industry, saw him giving two brilliant performances in Deewana and Raju ban Gaya Gentleman. In both the films, he posed serious threat to his senior co-stars—Nana Patekar and Rishi Kapoor. 1993 had him again in three superhits—Baazigar, Darr and Kabhi Haan Kabhi Naa. While in the former two, he carried off negative roles like no one had done before, the latter one proved that he was a performer with fabulous depth. 1994 saw him in another fantastic negative role—Anjaam and his second superhit with Kajol—Karan Arjun. But it was not until in late 1995 that Shahrukh became a household name, with an unforgettable film, Dilwale Dulhania Le Jayenge. This film brought with it all the fans, awards and the star-status Shahrukh could ever ask for. And the super-hit run continued with Dil To Paagal Hai, Yes Boss and Pardes in 1997. Till now, Shahrukh had been established as the loverboy of the 90s. His cute looks, good dancing skills and an extra-emotive face was near perfect for the romantic leads he played. For a change, he dived into an out-and-out comedy with Duplicate and a serious flick called Dil Se...in 1998, and though they are my faves, they weren’t as successful as one thought them to be. To round off came a super-successful Kuch Kuch Hota Hai in the same year, and it was clear that the audiences wanted to see Shahrukh as just a cute loverboy. 1999 saw him in a hilarious film called Badshaah while in 2000, it was experiment time with Josh, Mohabbatein and Hey Ram. Nevertheless, he was fabulous in all four of them. 2001 saw him taking a dive into production which only garnered him two flops—Phir Bhi Dil Hai Hindustani and Asoka, although in the latter one, he gave in a sincere performance. The success of Kabhi Khushi Kabhie Gham in 2001 and Devdas in 2002 only confirm Shahrukh’s status as the numero uno. Even in mediocre films like One 2 Ka4 and Hum Tumhaare Hain Sanam, Shahrukh gave in brilliant performances.
Call him Baadshah, King Khan or anything, in my thinking, he’s just the BEST!!!!!!
Shahrukh was
Unforgettable in: Baazigar, Darr, Dilwale Dulhania Le Jayenge, Dil To Pagal Hai, Dil Se, Baadshah, Josh, Mohabbatein, Kabhi Khushi Kabhie Gham
