Five star kids who realllly SHINE!!!

A number of star kids have come into the Bollywood arena. It is as natural a phenomenon as the child of a doctor, teacher or computer engineer following his/her parent?s profession. Keeping the genes factor in mind, we are surprised to find that not all of them come out as successful actors.

One may gain popularity for his/her physique / figure, another may generate curiosity because of good media PR and some other star kid may become famous for his/her ?attitude??but at the end of the day, these turn out to be short-lived triumphs. Ultimately it is their acting talent that promotes them from Ai>kid of a star* to simply *?star?*, and this verdict is given by the public. A star kid may have the advantage of debuting in a lead role but their failure is not spared by the public or the media who writes them off in the most unkind words.

I belong to the kinder lot of public. Hence I will refrain from listing and blasting the unsuccessful starlets. Instead, I will name the 5 outstanding starlets of my choice who made their mark as actors and won the hearts of millions by dint of their hard work and individual talent

*1. Hritik Roshan (Son Of Rakesh Roshan)*

Hritik deserves to be the No. 1! His first film **Kaho Na Pyar Hai** was directed by his actor father Rakesh Roshan. Rakesh Roshan was never known as a great actor but surely he was a keen student who learnt to feel the pulse of the Indian audience. **KNPH** was a smashing hit and the winner all the way was Hritik Roshan( Best actor, 2000). It is a fact that Hritik had the advantage of his father?s experience, mature guidance and able marketing strategies but at the end of the day, success of a film depends much on its actors. Hritik proved himself through the double role he was offered in the film.

Moreover, he was handsome, had a well chiselled out body and was a brilliant dancer. **Fiza** and **Mission Kashmir**, could not live up to the expectations generated after **KNPH**. A series of films released after that received lukewarm response. Nevertheless, he delivered his magic once more in **Koi Mil Gaya**, another film directed by his father! Some feel that Hritik performs only under the direction of his father. However, I personally think he is a superb actor and will prove his talent with other directors as well in future.

*2. Kajol (Daughter of Tanuja)*

Kajol is one of the most talented actresses of Bollywood. She made her debut in Rahul Rawail’s **Bekhudi**. The film did not create box-office history but it marked Kajol?s arrival in Bollywood. Her next film was **Baazigar**. It became a huge hit and Kajol instantly clicked. **Yeh Dillagi** became a major hit too. And then came the unimaginable success of **Dilwale Dulhaniya Le Jaayenge** (best actress, 1995) followed by **Gupt **(best villain, 1997), **Pyar Kiya Toh Darna Kya**, **Pyar Toh Hona Hi Tha**, **Kuch Kuch Hota Hai **(best actress, 1998), **Hum Aapke Dil Mein Rehte Hain** and **Kabhi Khushi Kabhie Gham** ( best actress, 2000). Kajol?s screen presence is so attractive that the moment she appears on screen, the entire scene lights up. She may not be traditionally beautiful like Nargis, Waheeda Rehman or Madhuri Dixit but she has a unique charm is difficult to miss. Its a pity we don?t get to see her nowadays. I hope she will make a comeback soon and surprise us with her stellar performances.

*2. Sanjay Dutt (Son of Sunil Dutt and Nargis)*

When Sanjay Dutt decided to join films, no producer agreed to cast him as hero. Helpless, Sunil Dutt launched him in **Rocky** under their banner. **Rocky** fared average at the box-office. So did his other films before **Saajan**, his first huge hit. However, his real talent was uncovered rather late in his career with **Vastav** where he played an underworld don. His smashing performance typecast him as the angry young man and just when he was about to be stereotyped as an action hero, **Munnabhai MBBS** happened.

It changed all his earlier images and established him in a new avatar?an actor with excellent comic timing! He suffered a lot in personal life?for whoever?s fault--but has shown remarkable grit in leaving behind the bitter past and concentrating in honing his positive qualities. The most commendable aspect is that he is still surprising us with his performances and maintaining his place alongside the younger generation actors! I wish him all the luck he needs to come out of the mess in his life and hope he gifts us many more entertaining performances.

*4. Saif Ali Khan (Son of Sharmila Tagore)*

Saif was supposed to be debuted in Rahul Rawail’s **Bekhudi** together with Kajol. However, he was thrown out of the film because of late arrivals and drinking problems. The incident generated a lot of negative publicity. Then Umesh Mehra cast him as hero in **Aashiq Awara**. It was an insignificant film and he was barely noticed. From **Parampara** till **Dil Tera Deewana**?all his films failed. He was rudely described as *?male Sharmila Tagore?*. In fact, he did look effeminate, had a poor voice quality and acted in the most forgettable roles. **Yeh Dillagi** gave him some recognition but Farhan Akhtars?s **Dil Chahata Hai**really gave him recognition, positioning him as the flirtatious lover boy.

In **Kal Ho Na Ho** the audience loved him too. At last he found his niche and Bollywood his latent talents! He also groomed himself physically and looked more macho. He evolved as a mature actor, serious thinker (remember his article in *Bombay Times* just before the India-Pakistan Test series?) and a comic host (remember him hosting Filmfare Awards ceremony with Sharukh?) like *Billy Crystal*. Recently released Hum Tum is also a hit. On the Sunday after its release, I went to New Excelsior to try my luck and found the blackers asking for a whopping Rs. 500 for a ticket!! It only goes to prove his immense popularity!! Keep it up Saif!!
