While surfing through the website, I read some real good reviews on the best/worst actors and actresses. Most of them taking sides on who amongst the current and past of Bollywood can be deemed to stand in the pantheons or be thrown into the dungeons. But I am here to make a case for a group of artistes who do not get mentioned in the same breath as the Madhuris and the Kajols. No Im not talking about artistes from other languages like Sridevis or JayaPradas and Simrans or Aarti Agarwals or Meera Jasmines.
The group Im representing is a small but in-demand group today. Their roles are miniscule, but their success can go some way in redeeming the worst of films. Ladies and Gentlemen, this is the review on the 5 Best Item-song Actresses in Bollywood cinema today. These girls work their .. off to make the songs a success. Their roles last a few minutes, and skillful marketing makes them the center of many a films promos and ad campaigns. The item-song girls have to have a few skills to qualify.
A decent ability to dance.
Smoldering good looks.
Decent ability to mouth a few words of the song (well editing can manage that too)
Screen presence to carry off those ridiculous costumes.
Lastly and most importantly no serious acting talents beyond the above mentioned talents ! ;-)
(No raveena or shilpa or bipasha)

So without much ado, here are the famous 5:
1. Yana Gupta
The film was Dum, a rather forgettable remake of a Tamil film, this movie starred Vivek Oberoi. The mindless violence and bad acting was frying my brain cells. Then like a thirsty traveller in a desert stumbling onto an oasis, there was this song:
Babuji Zara Dhire Chalo Babuji Zara Dheere Chalo Bijli Khadi Yahan
Enter Yana Gupta, a hot Czech babe. The next 5 minutes were mind blowing.
After the song got over, I left the theater. You know George Coztanzas advice.. just leave on a high note.
Yanas gone on to make many more an item songs including some in Telugu(the gults are smart) and in Tamil( yeah we copy the gults ;) )
2. Shamita Shetty
for those who were fortunate to miss the opus Mohabattein, Shamita is one of the skimpily clad actresses who came on screen for a few minutes and a couple of songs. But her phone wasnt exactly ringing off the hook. So she made a wise career move. In the film Mere Yaar ke shaadi hai, enter Shamita in the song Sharara Sharara,
Lehraake Balkhaake Lehraake Balkhaake Balkhaake Balkhaake Aag Laga Ke Dilo Ko Jala Ke Karoon Main Ishaara.
She followed it up with Chori pe chori in Saathiya.
Rock on Shamita !!
3.Koena Mitra
Ok I dont know, much about her. In another Dimag pe dabao film, Road Koena, a bengali babe, sizzles the screen in the song Khulam khulla pyaar . Check out that song. Koenas supposed to appear in another item song in the upcoming film Musafir
4.Lara Dutta
In one of this years better films Khakee which was going well, Santoshi decided to give the public a break from the action fest with the item song. Aisa Jadoo dala re. With some great music, set in a club, former Ms.India Lara grooves to the tunes. Lara kya mara !
5.Amrita Arora
Ok, shes the weakest link, cause shes appeared in slightly larger acting roles. But in the film Zameen another of these terrorist vs. army flicks, she has this hot item numbers, Dilli ki Sardi, it also helps that Shweta Shetty voices the song. Her awesome dance really freezes the screen. Amrita, will in all possibility is looking at a good prospective career in item songs.
