~~~Beauty and Acting personified~~~
Heroines add that ’’Extra’’ glamour to the films. The topic is Five best actresses of Hindi movies-general. Iam presenting a review on the best looking actresses who are my favorite and whom I like watching on screen. I have divided the review into two parts
a) Heroines who were beautiful when they were at the peak of their career and even now:
Beauty fades away with time. But even then, these ladies have preserved their beauty and have made themselves shine even after ages. I felt this necessary when mentioning the best actresses in bollywood. I have not concentrated on 60s and 70s heroines as I have not seen their movies.
b) Heroines who are CURRENTLY rocking the tinsel film world with beauty and ACTING:
Mere beauty is nothing. But beauty becomes pronounced only when a) the eyes are able to emote , b) the face is able to express million expressions and so on. Hence this category was chosen. Here I wanted to concentrate on the current heroines because I have closely examined the movies of these heroines.
Let me start the countdown for the FIRST CATEGORY
Tabu
An actress of substance who has sustained in the film industry with her sheer acting capability. She had won National awards, critics awards, Filmfare awards and she is still going strong. She is beautiful and her beauty has not faded away even in her recent movies. Maqbool, her latest release, was another feather to her cap where she did an outstanding negative character. She started off in the beginning of 90s and is going strong with each film. She is playing a terrorist in the Kunal Kohli’s next titled ’’Fanah’’ starring Aamir and Kajol. Tabu bags the fifth position.
Rekha
I have read many trivias about Rekha stating that she underwent some operation. But she is a beauty with talent and nobody can deny it. She was excellent in Khoon Bari Maang and had done classics like Muqaddar ka Sikander, Silsila, Umrao Jaan and she still is making waves in bollywood. Her item number in Parineeta was fantastic and she looked much younger. She was absolutely lovable as a doting mother in Koi Mil Gaya especially in the scene when she has an angry outburst at the people who make fun of Hrithik. Sensuous Rekha takes the fourth position!!!
Madhuri Dixit
She is an ultimate beauty and a wonderful dancer. Acting is a cakewalk for this actress who has achieved milestones in her career with her sincere flawless performances. Can anybody forget the Ek Do Teen or the Dhak Dhak song? Even now in devdas, she was ethereal. Especially in the scene when she confronts about the takurs after the Dola re sequence. Ethereal Madhuri Dixit takes the third place and bollywood wants some more from this talented lady!!!
Sridevi
She is a real beauty. I don’t know how many people are aware of this fact that she was ruling both the Tamil and Hindi film industry at one point. She was in almost all the movies of Kamal Hassan and Rajnikanth (superstars down south) and at the same time, she was starring with Rishi kapoor, Jeetendra, Anil Kapoor, Vinod Khanna to name a few. In a recent function in Chennai, she was looking as gorgeous as she was in her yesteryear movies (saw the pic in the internet). Second position exclusively reserved for her.
The number 1 position goes to
Hema Malini
Gosh... I really could not believe my eyes when I saw her in Baghban. When her daughter is getting herself placed in the bad actresses category, Hema Malini at 50+ still rocks. She has the same aura and screen presence which she had when she was the top star and dreamgirl in mid 70s and 80s. In the Koffee with Karan episode, she was as dazzling as ever and her contemporary of those days, Zeenat Aman was looking pale and washed out. Good going Hema-ji. She is the unprecedented queen of bollywood!!
The top 5 heroines for the SECOND CATEGORY are
Amrita Rao
Only 6 releases (3 hits) and still she is in the A-list (I meant my list). Iam not out of my mind. Amrita Rao is a revelation among the current stars. She looks cute and she definitely has the girl-next-door image. She says that she is picky about her roles. That is a good gesture for a newcomer. Instead of going for a signing spree, she has carefully chosen roles till date though one movie of hers (deewar) was miserable (Hota hai). She was excellent as Payal in Ishq Vishq and a perfect choice for sanjana in Main Hoon Na. When she does a complete transformation and comes to the college in MHN, not only the students in that cine-college even I had a jolt. Such is her screen presence. Slow and steady wins the race and Iam sure Amrita Rao is here to stay.
Pros: Selected Roles, Girl-Next-door image.
Cons: Have to think
Preity Zinta
She is bubbly, Vivacious and a dimple beauty. She started off with advertisements and the famous one is the Perks ad where she stole many hearts (even mine). Her dare-say act in Dil Se took many by surprise (r u a virgin?) and she was absolutely fantastic in Jiya Jale song. She ACTED very well as a pregnant mother in ’’Kya Kehna’’ especially in the last auditorium scene and that was when I started noticing her acting skills. Her role as a Pakistani girl in Veer Zaara was also appreciated by many and she is a successful star today with her Salaam Namaste opposite Saif ready to hit the theatres.
Pros: Dimples, Vivacious
Cons: Getting typecast as a lover girl, loving the heroes (always)
Aishwarya Rai
She is Miss World 1994 and hence I don’t have to give justification for her beauty. But can she act? This is the question that is on everyone’s lips and many consider her a plastic doll. I beg to differ people. She can act and the problem is that she is a Director’s child. Have you all noticed that she gets awards and critical acclaim for movies directed by Bhansali and Rituparna ghosh? This proves the fact. If you have everything then you will become a perfectionist. In Ash’s case, I feel that she should choose roles properly and look for roles like Kuch Naa Kaho (she was very good in that movie), or something like Kandukondain Kandukondain (a tamil adaptation of Jane Austen’s ’’Sense and Sensibility’’) where she had wider scope to perform and
emote.
Pros: Giggles, Beautiful green eyes
Cons: Director’s child
Priyanka Chopra
Miss World 2000 has a very special place in my heart err.. in my review. Her first release was a tamil movie where I was irritated by her big time. But she actually surprised me in Andaaz where she was lovable and spontaneous. I run and re-run the scenes of hers and Akshay’s as they were neatly handled. Then came ’’Aitraaz’’ which actually took my breath away. She was spectacular as the seductive boss. Her recent movie Yakeen bombed but she did a wonderful job and her dialogue delivery and expressions were splendid. She has many dream projects which she (and me) is looking forward to. Don with SRK, Kkrish with Hrithik and Happy New Year again with SRK, and Bluff Master with Abhishek. Isn’t that a signing coup?
Pros: Acting, Sexy
Cons: Grin. sometimes
No prizes for guessing the number 1 position.... it is undoubtedly
Rani Mukherji
I have already written a big review on this personality but still she needs a mention in the top 5 for her treasure house of talent and her immense acting capacity. She has hit the bull’s eye this year with almost all the movies categorized as ’’Hits’’. Suddenly we have seen her emerging but she was a good actress who had been underplaying her roles all these days. To me ’’Rani is the REIGNING queen of bollywood’’.
Pros: Everything
Cons: Nothing really...
