Well, very small list to choose from. Many of the movies this year didnt reach the public expectations, but if u dig the dust, good movies were made this year too. I dun think it was as if bollywood directors had a new year resolution for 2002 to make all the pretty bad films. Atleast from the list of ones I watched I can list those I really relished on. So here goes my review.
There was this RamGopal Vermas directorial wonder COMPANY. The film was ver well crafted and one of the best gangsta.... movies after Satya The film is highlighted by brilliant performances from its starcast. Noone seemed to lack anything in the movie. Especially, Ajay Devgun. He was fabulous in the movie. Vivek Oberoi has done a great job too. He made a good entry in the filmdom. The best part of his debut was his debut film was not another love story.
Then there was the unforgettable The Legend of Bhagat Singh Again Ajay Devgun did wonders portraying the martyr with all his heart. Here we have an actor who goes very near to Aamir Khan in his approach towards choosing roles. A totally new role each time. With this Ajay is going top guns. The credit of the film TLOBS mainly goes to Rajkumar Santoshi for his honest approach towards the plot. This one is going to stay with me for decades.
Devdas was one movie which kept my eyes glued to the screen. The tale of the classical lover has been told ver well by Sanjay Leela Bhansali. Shahrukh has done a brilliant job as Devdas. Aishwarya & Madhuri have also given great performances. But Shahrukh excels in his tailor made role. The film is not at all honest to the book. But it sure is a well made film.
The Indian audience as was expected overlooked this precious movie called Makdee to the extent that one of my friends laughed at me when I asked him to accompany me for the movie. The movie had a great storyline, brilliantly haunting touch and outstanding performances. Especially by the lill wonder Shweta Pandit But then it will not be remebered by our Indian audience as the movie has already got a stamp reading Flop For me Makdee is one of the best films to come out of bollywood this year. And for my friends who didnt like the movie, when u go for watching a movie meant for children, be a child at heart urself. And as it is, Makdee was loved even by my parents. So thats that.
Leela is one of those movies which again prove our audiences to be unlucky and always complaining. Again Dimple Kapadia ruled the silver screen with her perfect portrayal of Leela. The film is simply lovable. Such flicks really do need recognition in India.
Those were the five but then there still were good movies this year which went unrecognised. There was Everybody sayz I am Fine, Agnivarsha, Chall, Encounter - The Killing, Sur, Road, Mr. & Mrs. Iyer & Deham.
