My top 5 of 2004

It’s been sometime since I have written a review. I’d like to share my top 5 bollywood movies of 2004.

1-Khakee:This cop drama with a stellar star cast and rock-solid performances is a treat to watch. A bollywood movie with a hollywoodish feel to its techincal department, this movie is rocking! It has its share of filmi songs, action seqeunces and item numbers. Amitabh’s performance is rocking! But watch out for Akshay Kumar; if you don’t like him, chances are you’ll love him after this movie.

2-Lakshya:24 years and 18000 feet, he found himself. That’s the tagline of Farhan Akhtar’s latest, Lakshya. With a powrful star cast like Amitabh Bachchan, Hrithik Roshan and Preity Zinta, this movie has to be the best war movie made till date in indian cinema(exception: Border). Hrithik plays Karan Shergill, a rich kid who has no Lakshya except maybe dancing to Main Aisa Kyon Hoon. However, a series of incidents lead him to the IMA and he becomes a Lt. From there onwards, the story shifts to the kargil war where Karan and his troops do some cliffhanger type of stunts and win operation Vijay for Maj. Sunil Damle. Not to be missed.

3-Swades:Asutosh Gowariker returns after 3 years after the hugely successful Lagaan. Swades though diametrically oppostie to that of Lagaan, it bears the stamp of Asutosh Gowariker. Follow Mohan Bhargava , NASA scientist, who leaves USA to search that elusive place called home. He sees his country up close and personal and understands its problems. A hard hitting film, this one should be seen by all those who are away from India and long to know about it. SRK gives his career-best performance in this movie. For all those SRK critics, Swades, I am sure will be an eye-opener.

4-Main Hoon Na:This masala thriller from debutant Farah Khan is a rocking movie. The story is too complicated to explain in brief, so I won’t tell it. It’s a combination of terrorism, family, friendship, romance etc. etc. The movie has some cool moments and is a total paisa Vasool movie. If you want to know SRK’s mantra for success, see this movie. It’s his cheer charm and personality that makes him the king Khan.

5-Dhoom:What happens when you play Chor-Police with bikes? You get Dhoom, of course! The movie about John Abraham’s bike gang, chased by Abhishek’s cops, ably assisted by biker and mechanic Uday Chopra, is a roller-coaster ride throughout. With fast bikes, attitude-filled performances and superb music, this is one roller-coaster ride you’ll want to ride again and again.
