Can't think of many....

Well I have always been a big HINDI MOVIE buff.....but I mostly loved the films from the 50’s, 60’s and the 70’s coz that was the time when the best films were made......we had great actors, film-makers, musicians, singers....and moreover films at that time were made with a purpose and not just to earn big bucks. But slowly the scenario changed and now the films are made with the sole intention of earning money.....there is nothing in them which touches your heart or makes you remember them for long(strictly my opinion).I don’t remember many good films coming out in the 90’s......and I don’t think I have watched many films of that time.So i’ld rather pick films which I have liked in the recent past(1990-2002).....and which have impressed me in totality...

JO JEETA WOH SIKANDER

DIRECTOR:MANSOOR KHAN

CAST:AAMIR KHAN, AYESHA JULKA, MAMIK, DEEPAK TIJORI.

I have always been a fan of MANSOOR KHAN as a film-maker....coz he makes the most sensitive and sensible films....and never lets style overtake substance.JJWS, is one of my fav films of the 90’s.....and I loved it for the message it conveyed that everything is possible only if you make that one try.It was also a very youthful, fresh and different film set against the background of a cycle race between two rival schools.AAMIR KHAN as the naughty and irresponsible SANJU was a riot in the film(esp in the scnes where he tries to woo POOJA BEDI).The rest of the cast was great too......i also loved the dialouges and the music of the film.JATIN LALIT came up with a splendid score for this film.....esp PEHLA NASHA, which still remains one of my fav songs.JJWS, is definately one of the best film of this generation....

DAMINI

DIRECTOR:RAJ KUMAR SANTOSHI

CAST:MEENAKSHI SHESHADRI, RISHI KAPOOR, SUNNY DEOL.

I love RAJ KUMAR SANTOSHI’s films for the simple reson that he attempts to make different films with a social message and does not go over-board in making them.DAMINI was a great film......which he treated with maturity and class.DAMINI was a hard hitting film about a woman who fights against all odds to seek justice.MEENAKSHI SHESHADRI gave a performannce of lifetime, esp in the court scenes, she was outstanding, her acting moved me, SUNNY DEOL was awesome and so was AMRISH PURI, the confrontation scenes between the two were the highlights of the film.Dialouges were engaging, and the direction was good throughout, not once did the film lost its grip.DAMINI was a very good effort by RAJ KUMAR SANTOSHI.....and thankfully it got both critical acclaim and commercial succcess.

HUM AAPKE HAIN KAUN

DIRECTOR:SOORAJ BARJATYA

CAST:MADHURI DIXIT, SALMAN KHAN.

Well, i remember the first time I saw the film I had gone bonkers over it.....coz it was the first time I had seen a film like this.Agreed the film was like a marriage video, it was an escapist fare......still I loved it, coz it was a very feel good movie, which leaves you with a smile on your face.I loved everything in the film acting, music, shaadi ke scenes......but sadly it was after HAHK everyone started making films which only revolved around Bharitya sanskriti and parampara, shaadi, dulha-dulhan and what not......and that is why people started hating these sugary kind of films which were far away from reality. But still HAHK remains a personal fav.......and I enjoy watching it even now, as much as I enjoyed it watching the first time.

DIL CHAHTA HAI

DIRECTOR:FARHAN AKHTAR

CAST:AAMIR KHAN, PREITY ZINTA, SAIF ALI KHN, AKSHAYE KHANNA.

What a film.......i haven’t seen such a good film from any first time director.DCH was a great film and with this film FARHAN AKHTAR CHANGED THE STANDARDS OF THE HINDI FILMS AND SHOWED HOW FILMS SHOULD BE ACTUALLY MADE.The film was brilliant in all aspects......and Farhan’s approach to the film was so real and the way he etched out the characters(Aakash, Sid, Shalini, Tara, Sameer) in the film made them so believable. And what I really liked about the film was that though the film was so modern and contempory.....there wasn’t a ounce of skin show or vulgarity, which shows that FARHAN had confidence in his film, and did not need violence or sex to sell his film(unlike KARAN JOHAR, who was trying to show ouR rich culture and tradition in his film K3G, but on the other hand did not feel a bit ashamed to show KAREENA in the skimpiest clothes, talk of being a hypocrite) .A real clap worthy effort from FARHAN AKHTAR...

SAATHIYA

DIRECTOR:SHAAD ALI

CAST:RANI MUKHERJI, VIVEK OBEROI.

Like Farhan, Shaad Ali too made a film which was very realistic, touching, simple and beleivable......a kind of film every average viewer can relate too. There was nothing extravagent in the film, no over the top characters......and that is why it touches the viewers heart and will remain in his memory for long. Also the film was different from the usual love story......where our madly in love couple realise that life is not always a bed of roses after marriage.I loved SAATHIYA....and everything from casting to music to direction was perfect. And also I don’t think I have seen a better romance film in recent times than SAATHIYA, and the credit for that goes to outr lead pair VIVEK-RANI......coz they both had the most outstanding chemistry.Great film.

So these are some of the films I have liked in the recent past......some other films which I have enjoyed immensly but which I have not included in this list are ANDAJ APNA APNA, GHAYAL, SARFAROSH, LAMHE, COMPANY, SATYA, RANGEELA, LAGAAN(CLASSIC), FIZA.....and a few others.

PS:I have selected films which released between 1990’s to 2002.....
