Many people have pitted Kavita and Alka against each other, and most of the time. Alka has won. But when push comes to shove, I feel that kavita krishnamurty is a more versatile singer and much more well equipped with a better voice than Alka.
I have heard Alka sing in public places, and she made a disaster in everyone that she has sung. If feel, that if you are a well acknowledged singer, you should at least be able to sing in front of people. Kavita has excelled in every song she has song, she brings the emotions of the actress, she becomes the actress when she is singing for them. Not only that, but Kavita is more versatile that Alka.
I, for one, have only heard Alka sing more love songs than anything else, if anything else. I’m not saying that she is not suited for playback singing because she has done it for many years, but I do not think that she can come close to singing the songs that kavita has songs. Everything for classical, to love; from slow to fast songs, kavita has sung them all, and her voice and abilities prove that she is much more capable of singing a vast range of songs with poise, and elegance.
