Fusion of the east with the west..

Every year has been an evolution for the world of music.indian music has indeed reached the pinnacle of glory and will probably beat its own standards in the years to come.the year 2001 will forever be etched in my memory for the music albums that have been created really seems like a magicians trick.they cast spells so strong that people are still left humming those tunes.

its really tough to pick just 5 among these melodies.but i’ll try anyway.

1.)’lagaan’:

there is no song that can be called best in this movie since every song was a class of its own!the music of’ganan ganan’ was so captivating that I almost felt like I was part of the film., ’oye re chore’ has an excellent mix of english(’my heart just speaks a thousand words.’) melody coupled with the magic of hindi music and leaves the person yearning for more., ’gopalan haare’ has been sung beautifully by the nightingale of india-lata mangeshkar.and some other songs like’chale chalo’ and’mitwa’ are masterpieces in their own right.a.r.rehman with a vision and the characters with a’mission’ have given an album for us to remember and cherish for a lifetime.

2.)’dil chahta hai’:

the very first time I listened to the songs of dch I was so captivated that I bought the cd the same day itself.without doubt one of the very best albums of the year.my favourite songs are’tanhayee’(excellent rhythm, beats) and’tuje dunduta hu me.’(captivating dance steps coupled with a matching beat).the other songs.’dil chahta hai’(title song), ’jaane kyon.’ and’koye kaheen kehta rahen.’(a wonderful song again) are also hummable.on the whole it ushers in a new era of indian music with splendid western beats.a fusion that will define indian musics future.

3.)’rehnaa hai tere dil mein’:

this madhavan(southern hrithik)-diya mirza(former miss asia pacific) starrer is a remake of tamil film’minnale’ which was a huge crowdpuller.the best song in this movie is undoubtedly’zara zara dehta hain.’ sung with the magnetic voice of bombay jayashree.other songs like’aaya re koi.’ and’rehnaa hain tere dil mein’(title song are also worth listening to.

4.)’asoka’:

this shah rukh-kareena starrer was hugely expected to sweep the box office but ended up in almost a whimper.but two thing in the movie made it watchable-namely the breathtaking photography and the amazing songs.’raat ka nasha abi.’ and’sansanana nana.’ were a audio and visual treat.on the whole a cool album which got drowned out in controversies regarding emperor ashokas character and kareena kapoors dress.

5.)tie for fifth place-’yaadien’ and’k3g’:

yaadien staaring hrithik roshan and kareena kapoor had some cool collection of songs, for a change some original music had been composed by anu malik.yaadien yaad ate hain’(title song) with  splendid lyrics and soothin music was a treat, the other songs’ele re ele’ and’is ishq.’  are worth mentioning.

’k3g’ with its stellar star cast of amitabh bachan, jaya badhuri, shahrukh khan, hrithik roshan, kajol, kareena kapoor and rani mukherjee was an expected hit.the problem was with so many stars the audience did not know whom to watch and most of the songs got drowned out in the excitement.’dekha tumko jabse’ was a superb song with matching music and cool beats.again lata mangeshkars melody in the title song’kabhi kushi kabhi gham.’ was the plum in the pudding.

surely I have missed out 1 or 2 more good albums, nut I think year 2001 has been the’gem in the crown’ of achievements of hindi cinema.expectations have risen, hopes are high and ears are welcoming year 2002 hoping that it would excel its preceder and engulf us with the magic called music.
