Whenever I wanted to see a comedy movie in Hindi, I have always gone for a Govinda movie. Even wih a large number of boring movies like Raja Bhayya Aamdani, Atthani Kharcha Rupaiya, Jis Desh Mein Ganga Rehta Hain, Maharajah, Joru Ka Ghulam, Wah Tera Kya Kehna etc, he has really got some good comedy movies going in his career. He has got that natural talent to do comedies with an entirely different style of dialogue delivery and acting. Feel free to disagree with the following choices and comment.....
1) COOLIE NO:1
This had been among my favourite comedy movies for such a long time. He has done a real good job as Raju Coolie as he works hard to marry the girl he loves by telling the maximum lies. He pretends to be a very rich man to marry the daughter of Hoshiyar Chand (Kader Khan), the richest man in the village.
I think that Govinda-Kader Khan team can do comedy movies better than any body else. I don’t remember much of Govinda’s good movies without Kader Khan. The movie even got a twist in the middle to initiate the action factor of the movie which is to come in the end.
2) HASEENA MAAN JAAYEGI
This is one movie which I have seen lots of times. Sanjay Dutt and Govinda plays two sons who keeps on causing troubles for their father as they keep on creating pranks here and there. Both of our heroes have lifted an average story to a new level along with the veterans Anupam Kher and Kader Khan.
The comedy level just goes on increasing right from the beginning to the end. Govinda as the chacha is really brilliant! Just note those lines ’’Kuthe ke race mein kaun daudenga?’’ - ’’Mein daudega or first bhi aayega’’.
3) JODI NO:1
Sanjay Dutt and Govinda plays Jai and Veeru, two robbers who ’’lie, cheat and steal’’, who manages to kill the brother of a notorious don at a casino. While they were fleeing from the police as well as the mafia gang, they meet a rich businessman Rai Bahadur (Anupam Kher) who misunderstands Jai as some one else.
Later, Bahudur leaves the property under Jai due to a heart attack which is followed by a change in the minds of our heroes who decides to help them. Not much of a great storyline, but Sanjay Dutt and Govinda have given some impressive performance in the movie as they continued their partnership in Haseena Maan Jayegi into this movie too.
4) EK AUR EK GYARAH
Another similiar movie just like Jodi No:1 and Haseena Maan Jayegi which makes me feel that if you have the other two in your list, you should certainly have this one too. A similiar plot to Jodi No:1 - but this time they have lead to the capture of a terrorist who will get them as soon as he gets out of jail.
The two (Sanjay Dutt and Govinda) takes shelter in a house and manages to fall in love with two girls while the good old terrorist returns and he has the mother of our heroes kidnapped and wants the release of his partner in crime. As usual Sanjay-Govinda pair has done well in another movie. David Dhawan has done an impressive job yet again.
5) HERO NO:1
Another one of Govinda’s impressive comedy movies. Karisma Kapoor co-stars in the movie as they both fall in love in story which was not acceptable to the grand father of Karishma (Parwesh Rawal) who was having fights with Govinda’s father (Kader Khan).
But the lover boy wasn’t ready to give up the girl as he got into the house as a servant and tried his best to win the love of the members of the family. Govinda has done a fantastic job in the movie showing his comedy skills once again. Another one of those great comedy treats.....
