I am a complete bookworm and whenever I am travelling I am always on a lookout for good book stores. Being a Mumbaite, I am most conversant with Book stores in Mumbai.
The best book store according to me is
1) Crossword - There are several of these located across Mumbai, but the one I frequent often is at Shoppers Stop Juhu. Its quite a large store and its very comfortable to navigate across different types of books. You can surf through as many books as you wish and there are no enthusiastic salespeople chasing you!! You can afford to get into a world of your own, spend as many hours as you wish.. and time just flies!
2) Oxford Book store at Churchgate is quite good as well.. again its quite large and books are very neatly systematically arranged. They have quite a good collection of books and an overall fun experience is guaranteed.
3) Strand Book stall - One of the oldest and landmark stores in Mumbai - by far the cheapest books one could get anywhere in Mumbai. However quite small and cramped.. thus great place provided you know what you want.. as you will get great rates. But not a fun place to hang around and surf books.
4) The countless ’paper mart’s’ in Mumbai wherein you are guaranteed to get fab seocnd hand books at throwaway prices. The most amazing part of this arrangement is that one can even borrow books and return them after reading. All this is possible for a reading charge of Rs10/ Rs15..
