Reading is one of my passions! I just love to read.I have no patience or time to read big novels or stories.I enjoy reading fiction, magazines, weekly and monthly any article which interests me and other light reading stuff.I enjoy reading comics too.I feel they are not for children alone but can be a source of enjoyment for adults as well.
I miss shopping for my favorite books at’HigginBothams’ in Madras in India. Usually, I buy lots of cookery books there apart from fiction. They have a very good collection on every field. They have religious books, educational books, famous novels from all over the world, children’s books, audio & video casettes etc .Those who are living in Madras should find time to take a look at the variety of books you’ll find there. You will be amazed!
In Canada, during weekends, there are what are called’Flea markets’ in some shopping centers like walmart.You get really good books there if you go early in the morning. Being a weekend, people are free to go over and select the best books on sale. If the original price of the book is$5, you can get it in the flea market for around 50 cents. I have bought many good books there.
There are’Thrift Stores’ here, where you can get many used items like clothing, toys, household goods, furniture, electronic goods, books etc. These are the items which have been donated by people here and the proceeds from selling go for a good cause like treatment for people suffering from cancer, heart disease etc. There are also’Salvation Army’ outlets which sell donated items. We go sometimes to these places and find really good stuff to buy, mostly books! Some books look so new, that I used to wonder if they had ever been used at all!
Libraries are another place, where you can look out for buying good books. Every year or sometimes quarterly, we have books on sale in the public library here.We make use of that opportunity to buy some good books.My husband is mad after cars.He buys books related to cars all the time, like how I buy cookery books.
’Second page’ shops are another place to check out for good books. They are places, where second-hand books are sold . You get any kind of book here at a very low price. For example, an old Reader’s digest costs just 20 cents here, while it’s original price is$2.99!
If you want to buy books online, I would suggest Amazon.com.At one time, they sent me a gift cheque for$10 thro’ email when they were having some promotion. I wanted to make use of that opportunity and bought a book by paying slightly more.The book which I had ordered arrived in a week’s time. Their service is good.
