5 Greatest Guitar Songs

Hey, instead of listing down the 5 best rock legends, I would like to list here

5 Greatest Guitar Hits!

I know, I know . you guys must think I am crazy to restrict this to just 5 and cant ever imagine how can someone pick just 5 of the greatest guitar songs ever and I agree that there were a lot of more deserving songs that could have been here. But then again.

These are my personal favorites though and I wish I could play something like these song. Each song is very distinctive and unique and I have tried to list down the things that I like in each song.

5. Pearl Jam: - Alive

Probably one of the best songs of Pearl Jam from their album Ten. I like the starting of this song, very grungish and with distortion and all. Also the licks played in the background during the chorus is very interesting, the one with the bends.

In the list for: The lick in the background of the chorus

4. Metallica: - One

You must be wondering out of all the Metallica numbers why did I have to select this one. But then its One . It had got to be the one;) Kidding apart, this is a beautiful song. I love the way the guitar grows onto you. In the intro lead the play with 3rd sliding is amazing. It starts off with soft finger picking and gradually goes on the wonderful power cord during the * Dark-ness imprisoning me all that I see . * part with the double bass drums. Amazing man . too good! And then the solo . mind blowing.

In the list for: Superb use of power chords

3. Deep Purple: - Highway Star

No list would have been complete without this song. I mean, I literally grew-up listening to Deep Purple and this song epitomizes everything Deep Purple is to me. Powerful, fast, hard hitting, kick-ass song. The reason I love this song is for its between lead, the one with the lot of tapping. The combination of organ and guitar for the lead is something to listen to. Also being the bassist I love the very strong riding bass line of the song. Its truly fun to play this one.

In the list for: The first lead with tapping and the combo lead with organ

2. Eric Clapton: - Cocaine

Sticky fingers does it best with this song. The best part of this song is the use of 3 guitars to the fullest. All the guitars play something different and the combination is out of this world. I mean try to get that sound from a single guitar is impossible. Plus this songs got a very catchy rhythm which make it stuck in your head. The * Julagbandi * type of guitaring of this song makes it in this list.

In the list for: The Julagbadi type of licks with 3 guitars

1. Lynyrd Skynyrd: - Free Bird

The number one has got to be this song. This one starts of as a slow blues type sliding guitar kinda number. The lyrics are also nice and easy going. But the real beauty of this songs is when the singing stops and the end lead is played. Man that lead can literally blow you away. I have learnt such a lot of guitaring techniques from this single song that I wouldn’t have learnt from 10 songs together. I mean I learnt the effective use of slide and bends. Before this song I didn’t even knew what trills were!

This song’s lead also featured in one of my favorite movie Forrest Gump . The part where Jenny is standing on the window ledge after doing drugs and is about to jump and is in a sort of a trance. This song makes me feel that way every single time I hear it.

Hats off!

In the list for: The end lead, with the trills(a trill is a technique where you play a note and touch the string slightly with the nail of your left hand to give that reverberating kind of sound) and tapping and bends
