Songs that beat with my heart

Alka Yagnik has got a sweet, soulful voice which has improved over the years. I remember her shrill?mere angne mein?(Gosh, makes you want to shut your ears with your hands). The fact that she remained ignored after this is no surprise.

The problem is that she has a high pitched voice to begin with and if she raises it a few decibels, crash! vroom! noise! But thankfully, the lady evolved. She realized that soulful, low pitched numbers are more like her piece of cake. So she made a kind of presence felt in?Qayamat se qayamat tak? .

Her voice suited the innocent looking Juhi perfectly and she was on! From that point, this lady has not looked back. In the meantime she gave some fantastic numbers of which my favourites are:

*1. Tum aaye to aaya mujhe yaad gali mein aaj chand nikla

jaane kitne dino ke baad gali mein aaj chand nikla(Zakhm)*

Lovely song and fantastic picturization. Alka sounds very soft and mellow in this number while Pooja Bhatt looked so amazed and happy to see her man after many days. Y?know a secret: I sing this song for my baby(Alma). The moment I had come to know that she is on her way to this world and I am going to be a mommy, I was singing this song in her honour. Whenever I hear this song, it reminds me of those golden days.(She is a five-year-old now, how time flies!)

*2. Tujhe yaad na meri aayi, kisi se ab kya kehna

Dil roya, ankh bhar aayi, kisi se ab kya kehna(Kuch kuch hota hai)*

This song is full of pain and rejection, the kind of hurt that fills you the moment you realize that the one you love does not care for you, has never given you a thought and maybe desires another. Of course, Kajol?s realistic acting and lost-puppy-dog look contributed a lot in setting the mood of this song. I immediately feel like running inside the screen, hugging and comforting the sobbing Kajol.

*3. Ek din aap yun humko mil jaayenge,

phool hi phool raahon mein khil jaayenge

maine socha na tha.(Yes Boss)*

A beautiful, soulful song full of wonder which puts the feeling of requited love into the sweetest melody. A song that celebrates love. The music of Jatin-Lalit is very melodious and makes me want to dance a slow, graceful ball dance. It?s a must for your sweetheart for the Valentine?s day.

*4. Padh likh ke bada hoke tu ek kitaab likhna

Apne sawaalon ka tu khud hi jawaab likhna(Zakhm)*

I ALWAYS cry when I listen to this gem of a song. It?s a simple message of a mother to her child where she is advising him to grow up and write a book and write all the answers that he innocently asks her all the time. The questions about life that she cannot answer. This song will touch any mother?s heart. It?s kind of sad and resigned. And yet it depicts the silent strength that a gentle looking mother can have when it comes to taking care of her little ones.

*5. Aisa lagta hai jo na hua hone ko hai

Aisa lagta hai har faasla khone ko hai(Refugee)*

Somehow this song reminds me of everything fresh, everything sweet, everything beautiful. It?s about the feeling even before the first flush of love. Just a hint of approaching, inevitable current of love that can sweep one off one?s feet. It?s delicate and so frail, yet it makes you want you dance with joy.

So, go ahead and dance! Life is full of such joys!
