*I got my first real six-string
Bought it at the five-and-dime
Played ’til my fingers bled
It was summer of ’69.
Memories of my younger days come flooding back whenever I listen to a Bryan Adams number. To name the best five songs of the great Canadian Rock singer is not an easy task as most of his numbers compete against each other in terms of popularity. But as is the case, I’m listing my five favorite Bryan Adam’s numbers:
1. Summer of ’69 - This timeless song from the Album Reckless(Nov, 1984) was originally called The Best days of My Life. This song about making love in the summertime was ranked 5th on the Billboard Hot 100 list. It is one of the most popular and recognizable songs of Bryan Adams.
2.(Everything I Do) I Do It for You – This number from the album Waking up the Neighbours(Sep, 1991) featured in the film Robin Hood: Prince of Thieves and spend seven weeks at number 1 in Billboard Hot 100 and sixteen consecutive weeks at number 1 on the UK Singles Chart, which is the longest in British chart history. In 1992 it won the Grammy Award for Best Song written specifically for a Motion Picture or Television.
3. Have You Ever Really Loved a Woman? – This song from the album 18 Til I Die(April, 1995) featured in the movie Don Juan DeMarco three times. The song stayed at number 1 for five weeks on the Billboard Hot 100 and was also nominated for the Oscar.
4. Its Only Love – This popular rock duet by Bryan Adams and Tina Turner from the hit album Reckless( Nov, 1984) reached number 15 on the Billboard Hot 100. It also featured in Tina Turner’s live album Tina Live in Europe(1988).
5. Please Forgive Me – This slow ballad is from the album So Far So Good(Nov, 1993). This number reached number 7 on the Billboard Hot 100 list.
*Summer of69(Lyrics)
*I got my first real six-string
Bought it at the five-and-dime
Playedtil my fingers bled
It was summer of69
Me and some guys from school
Had a Band and we tried real hard
Jimmy quit and Jody got married
I shualda known wed never get far
Oh when I lock back now
That was seemes to last forever
And if I had the choice
Ya - Id always wanna be there
Those were the best days of my life
(CHORUS)
Aint no use in complainin
When you got a job to do
Spent my evenins down at the drive in
And thats when I met you
Standin on a mamas porch
You told me that youd wait forever
Oh and when you held my hand
I knew that it was no or never
Those were the best days of my life
(Chorus) Back in Summer of69
Man we were killin time
We were young and restless
We needed to unwind
I guess nothin can last forever, no
And now the times are changin
Look at everything thats come and gone
Somethimes when I play that old six-string
I think about ya wonder what went wrong
Standin on a mamas porch
You told me it would last forever
Oh the way you held my hand
I knew that it was now or never
Those were the best days of my life
(Chorus) Back in summer of69
