((::Princess of Playback Singing::))

Shreya Ghosal, as many of you know, is Bhansali’s discovery. She has talent, and very important of all, she is versatile. Now being versatile means, she can render any song with utmost dedication and emotes efficiently at the necessary interludes. She is the hottest playback singer in the film industry who is rocking in Hindi, Tamil and even Telugu films.

Iam an ardent admirer of her voice and consider that her voice is a blessing. She has sung so many songs in a very short period of time and her best ones and one I like the most in the recent times are as follows

Disclaimer: There won’t be’Bairi Piya’, ’Jaadu hai Nasha Hai’ and all other acclaimed songs of Shreya in the top 5 as they have been written to death. Iam concentrating on the songs which were underrated and less written about. Here starts my journey into Shreya’s world of music.

1. Saansein Madham Hai - Kasak

Music by M.M.Kreem, this song does remind you of’Jaadu hai nasha hai’ but this is a bit fast. The way shreya blends the lyrics with her voice makes it completely different, and her passion is seen in both the lyrics and her expressive voice. Some lyrics from the song.

Saansein Madham Hai

Hoonton ki kaliyan bhi nam hai

Chaahat ki Bahon me Armaan sulakthe hai

Milne ki ro me dheere dheere tanha jal rahe hain

The way she renders’Dheere Dheere Tanha’ in those lines tells her caliber. The music is haunting and her intermittent humming shows her musical brilliance. A very good song and my current favorite song. This song is one of the best soulful song that has been composed and shreya’s voice with pain is a revelation. A typical song where the heroine misses her lover and sings in pain.

2. Dhanak Ka Rang - Tumsa Nahin Dekha

Don’t be surprised. Since everybody has written about Bairi Piya, Jaadhu hai Nasha hai, I planned to write some of her underrated yet brilliant piece of her work. Composed by Nadeem Shravan, the song starts with a initial few lines

Dhanak Ka Rang hai Bikhra Mere Dupatte pe

Sari Khusboo meri Bahoon me Simat aaye hai

Paon Padthe nahi zameen pe mere. Mujhe Ajeeb si masti yeah umad aaye hai.

then, the joy of her life. goes like this

Aaj Lagtha hai mei hawavon main ho. Aaj itni khushi mili hai

Aaj Bas Mein nahi hai mann mera. Aaj Itni khushi mili hi.

The hummings, orchestration and the different style of lyrics(2 lines in all the stanzas) makes this song very special. Some more https://lyrics.

Khaya Ki shokiya lipti hai mere anchal se.

Aisa Lagta hai ki mein Dulhan hoon Bani. Aaj itni khushi mili hai.

Woh Ek Pal ki Mulakht Rang Layi hai.

Umar Bar ke liye mehmaan Bani. Aaj itni khushi mili hai.

Shreya’s exhibits her joy in this song such that it makes us stand up and dance. A must hear to everyone who wants songs with beautiful lyrics and captivating music and vocal. This is also one of the underrated song of Shreya.

3. Subah ki Dhoop si - Dhoop

Shreya’s combination with Hariharan was refreshing. A melodious soft song and the tune was very catchy. Shreya sounds very mature and handles the song with utmost conviction with a veteran like Hariharan. Excellent melody and this song is more like another’Ek Din Aap’ from’Yes Boss’. Though that song was a masterpiece from Jatin Lalit, this one is no less than a masterpiece. Composed by Lalit Sen, the lyrics goes like this.with hariharan starting the song.

Subah ki dhoop si shaam ke roop si

Meri Saanson mein thi jiski parchayiyaan

Dekh kar tumko lagtha Hai Tum ho vahi

Sochti thi jise meri tanhayiyaan

Haan tumhara hi mujhe Intezaar

I like’Yeh Dhoop Ek Safar’, a solo number by Shreya in the same movie. But when I had to chose between the two, I had to choose’Subah Ki dhoop’. The lyrics are excellent and there are no unwanted beats and it stands out. A wonderful duet and an underrated song, I shud say.

4. Naam Ada Likhna - Yahaan

This song is a wonderful melody with enchanting piece of music. The music is subdued by the sweet melancholy of Shreya. Shaan also combines with her but it is shreya all the way. The lyrics are full of life and it tells the eternal love that she has for her lover. It doesn’t have the mandatory 2 stanza and that makes this song very special. Simple and magnificient is what can be said about this song. Composed by Shanranu Moitra, some https://lyrics.

Pooche jo koi meri nishani rang hi na likhna

gore badhan pe ungli se mera naam ada likhna

Kabhie Kabhi aas pass chand rehta hai

Kabhie Kabhi aas pass shaam rehti hai

Aao naa aao naa, Jhelum mein Behlenge

Vaadi ke mausam bhi ek din tho badhlengi

My final choice will have 2 songs which had excellent beats and fast rendition.

5. a)Shikdum - Dhoom

I can’t finish my review without this song. This is my favorite even today. Her rendition of’Jao Baba Jao’ drives me crazy every time. Shaan and shreya makes everybody dance to this tune. The picturization had the skimpily dressed rimii sen and the current heartthrob Abhishek going wild that made people forget the vocals. I suggest this song special because of Shreya. Because of the’Dhoom Machale’, this was hardly noticed. I would prefer this song anyday to’Dhoom Machale’. Composed by pritam, the lyrics goes like this.

Koi Nahi Hai Kamre Mein Kya haseen Mila Hai Pal.

Aaj Shararat Karne Dho, Kaam Bakhi Karenge Kal.

Jao Baba Jao. Aise Na Behkavo

Hosh Mein Aa Javo Paagal Na Bana Tum.

Dilbar Shikdum shikdum shikdum.

b) Dil Dooba - Khakee

I just realized that I haven’t written any song of Shreya with Sonu. Hence this sub-division. This is a fast paced number and remains my favorite till date along with shikdum. The music was extraordinary and shreya’s humming was magical. I can hear to this song anyday. I wonder why the music director Ram Sampat wasn’t given much opportunity after this film. Lyrics from the middle where shreya sings.

Badi Tadap hai Badi Kashish hai teri tho chaahat mein

Haazaron Majnu Bane Hai Pagal Meri Mohabbat mein(is it including me)

I can listen to a song even if it has shreya just humming some interludes. Such is my love for her voice. It is magical, magnificent, mind-blowing, magnanimous, majestic, magnetic, marvelous, err.running short of words.
