Without much of an introduction, here is my list of 5 movies which flopped but which should have done well:
a) App Mujhe Achey Lagna lage
b) Kranti (Bobby deol and amisha patel)
c) Raja Bhaiya (govinda)
d) Jadugar (Amitabh Bacchan)
e) Jeena Sirf mere liye (Kareena Kapoor)
HAH... fooled you :-) .Heres the real list:
1) Lamhe - undoubtly yash chopras best made film to date. Lamhe had everything going for it; the best technicians, amazing music and a stellar cast. I cant fathom why it didnt work. every actor in the movie was perfectly cast. in my view it anil kapoor and sridevis best performance to date.
2) Khamoshi - When I saw Khamoshi, I had no doubts on the movie being loved by everyone because this is one of those raremovies which falls in a commercial slot, yet was in touch with real emotions. I guess the movie was overly sensitive which is why people didnt like it. I loved everything about the movie, the music, the cinematography and most of all, manishas performance. Its amazing why she didnt win any awards for this movie. Goes to show how shallow the industry is by conferring awards only to commercially successful movies.
3) Ijazzat - When would the movie going public ever learn to appreciate good cinema. We are talking about cinema transforming now, but this movie from the late 80s/early ninetys (not sure) was a classic. The soundtrack was one of r d burmans best works and I still remember reading a review of the soundtrack in som film glossy where they trashed the album saying that rd burman had made a hash of some great modern poetry. It couldnt have been further from the truth. Apart from an outstanding soundtrack, the movie had killer performances to boast of from Rekha, naseer and the highly under rated anuradha patel who shone in this lesser known film of gulzar.
4) Silsila - Another Yash Chopra flick which truly deserved to be a stellar hit. Its strange that yash chopras best movies have failed at the box office (lamhe and silsila). silsila was commercial cinema at its finest. It had all the ingredients which generally work in todays context namely, mush, lush locales, a glamorous heroine, a stellar performance from Amitabh and amazing music. Despite the curiosity value of the 3 main players (you know who im referring to) the movie suprisingly bombed.
5) Kaun and Darna Mana Hai - I am clubbing together these 2 ramgopal verma movies which were truly well made thrillers. I have nothing to say but to express surprise over the choice of our common movie going public for not appreciating these 2 amazingly well made, taut and slick thrillers. Kaun had me on the edge of my seat and darna mana hai was just fantastic. we have no business to critize movie makers on thinking the indian movie watching audience is dumb when we reject the good stuff they churn out. Think about it people.
