Through this review, I am just giving my opinion on those films which deserved better treatment both by critics and the general audience. if I were to name those films which deserved to be hits, I would end up filling pages. khamoshi, jaane bhi do yaaron, kaagaz ke phool, pyaasa, swades and maqbool are there to name just a few. so here is my pick which were above average, even if not very good...
- chori chori ( 2003 )
the film was genuinely entertaining with a great performance from rani mukherji. dont know why, but I always like this film for a greatly lovable chracter of khushi played by rani brillinatly and her great chemistry with ajay devgan. though the film dragged towards its climax, it is nevertheless wotrth a dekko with some great moments and a perennial nice feel to it.
- jab pyaar kisise hota hai ( 1998 )
the film had a brave concept from honey irani [ as usual ] and for a nice change, a sincere performance from salmaan khan. with just the right amount of pot boiler elements and cinematic liberties [ good antics from johhny lever and jatin lalits melodious musical sequences ], the film is definitely a nice treat.
- om jai jagdish ( 2002 )
I try to be critical to this anupam kher film to the extremes but turn out to a loser at the end bcoz I really dont find anything much wrong with the story as the critics claimed. the screenplay was totally filmy but equally melodramatic and engagaing. anil kapoor and abhishek bachchan were brilliant in their title roles. I still wonder why the film flopped.
- jis desh mein ganga rehta hai ( 2000 )
inspite of a weak script [ also a bit nonsensical at places ], mahesh manjrekar succeeded in making us feel the innocence of ganga. govinda was at his acting best as the film made its way through my heart due to its emotional resonance and brilliant direction by mahesh who proved that the excellence of VAASTAV and ASTITVA were no fluke.
- one 2 ka 4
this action suspense film was technically brilliant and starkly entertaining. no doubts, it was an out and out commercial flick with some somewhat irrelevant comic sequences and few songs for good measures. SRK was very good as the frustrated police officer and JUHI CHAWLA was simply amazing as the undercover cop. I enjoyed it thoroughly.
all the comments, ratings and suggestions are most welcome. I would definitely love tohear your opinion on my choice of the films which I think are grossly under rated.
till next time
