If only I could sing

Well, hehe, I do play a bit of guitar, and as a result try to’sing’ along, but I’m pretty sure I end up sounding like a toad with a sore throat. But, just in case, if The Lord God were to cause a shift in the universe and leave me with Ed Kowalczyk’s vocal abilities, these would be the songs I would sing to my, er.’Beloved’ - which of course would be another by-product of the proposed cosmic shift.;).

1. Beautiful Girl - INXS: Hands down, the first song I would croon.’Beautiful girl, staaayy with me’. This of course would be with me on my knees and she running as fast as she could, away from any physical proof of my existence. Michael Hutchence sounds great, whispering throughout this great number.  Here’s a bit of trivia - something I heard on radio. Bono and Hutchence were discussing Kobain’s suicide to which Hutchence replied -’I guess he was stuck in a moment’. Later on, Hutchence’s apparent suicide led Bono to write’Stuck in a moment’ in his memory.

2. Everything I do - Bryan Adams: My friends would kill me if they saw this particular artiste up here in my list. Hehe, not much time to live. Well, I’d play this song if I were trying to placate my(hehe)’beloved’ - sounds a bit corny, sorry! I guess, one major reason I like this song is, that I used to be a major Robin Hood fan. Heard the song on the’Prince of thieves’ soundtrack, and I was er. smitten? I still like B Adams though, he’s just overplayed - waaaayyy overplayed. The lyrics sound a bit cliched now, but it was great when I heard it first.

3. Romeo and Juliet- Dire Straits: I love playing this song on my guitar! And thanks to Knopfler’s style, I do manage to sound a bit like him. I guess I’d play this when my’beloved’(hahaha) is either bored, or when I’m still in the’courtship’ stage. I love the riff, sounds awesome on an acoustic. The lyrics are great too. Here are a few samples:

I can’t do the talk like they talk on tv

And I can’t do a love song like the way it’s meant to be

I can’t do everything but I’d do anything for you

I can’t do anything except be in love with you

And all I do is miss you and the way we used to be

All I do is keep the beat and bad company

All I do is kiss you through the bars of a rhyme

Julie I’d do the stars with you any time

Juliet when we made love you used to cry

You said I love you like the stars above I’ll love you till I die

There’s a place for us you know the movie song

When you gonna realise it was just that the time was wrong juliet?

4. Annie Song - John Denver:  Well, what can I say. if there were some way I could achieve John Denver’s vocal nirvana, I wouldn’t need to hunt for a’beloved’(heheheh). I wish I was the guy to come up with the line’You fill up my senses’. It has the power to draw one completely into what Mr Denver was feeling when he wrote this song, one doesn’t need to be psychic for that. The king of all love songs.

5. I hope that I don’t fall in love with you - Tom Waits:  I first heard Hootie’s cover of this track. I’d be singing this song after I met my’beloved to be’(heheehehe). Nice song, its about a guy who falls for a woman he sees at the bar he frequents. Well written straightforward lyrics, no need to be wordy when you’re singing in a bar, I guess. It made me fall in love with the subject of the song.

I hope that I don’t fall in love with you

Cause falling in love just makes me blue

Well the music plays and you display your heart for me to see

I had a beer and now I hear you calling out to me

And I hope that I don’t fall in love with you.

Well, of course, there are a few more songs that come to mind:

*With or without you - U2

I love you - Saigon Kick

Kiss from a rose - Seal

Fields of Gold - Sting

Dance with you - Live

A Sorta Fairytale - Tori Amos

Stand by me - John Lennon

To the moon and back - Savage Garden.*

On second thought, I should have included With or without you in my list. Well, consider it added in place of B Adams:).
