They Dance in my dreams

Thanks to Mouthshut.com for giving me the artistic license to be in it’s pages what I am not in reality - an open connoiseur of Indian beauty.

I am a shy & reserved person and is thereby enjoying the advantage of this freedom bestowed on me.

I want to hug that foreign fashion designer (dunno his name) who remarked that Indian women are the most beautiful on Earth.

It may be a prejudiced statement but who cares :)

Since it has been impossible for me to have a glimpse of all the actresses who have made their presence in Indian cinema today, allow me to share my personal list of 5 most beautiful Indian actresses based on whom I have seen.

Opinions may vary as per gender and individual differences .

So, forgive me if your favorite is not among these divine Eves but don’t forget me :)

Presenting them in alphabetical order -

1.

Those cheeks like delicate porcelain dishes, that well-toned body of a yoga instructor, those eyes that can flutter a man’s heart, a Greek Goddess, an Indian tsarina, I’m talking blah-blah......

Even if she attempts to shy away from the countless admirers by covering herself in a veil, she’ll end up looking all the more glowing.

Where did her jet black hair go? I guess she felt Indians have savoured her elegance enough and now it’s time to look more international, to get more Hollywood tongues wagging !

And no, she shouldn’t reveal those long legs in mini-skirts (doesn’t gel). Let them best remain beneath the long ghagras she wears while swirling around like an expert Kathak dancer wooing her Sultan.

A very graceful dancer, she has the weakness of letting her movements be plastic at times. My beautiful lady, like Zakir Hussain you should let go while performing. This is not a beauty contest and I am not going to rate your dances on a scale on 1-10. So, be natural and set me on fire !

How many of us have felt, seeing that unreal visage, that she has this tender & untouchable aura around her? I’m a victim of this judgement too and forgive me if my words are jumping off the cliff when I say that such an aura could be due to the presence of many guardian angels protecting her.

If the normally reticent Mohanlal (famous actor) could go ga-ga describing his experience with her as ’fantastic’, then you should stuff my mouth with rags to avoid suffering from more flattering noise pollution !

Sigh,

there she goes, the woman in my dreams Aishwarya Rai

2.

How many of you, especially South Indians, have seen Rajashilpi starring Mohanlal & her?

How many of you, having seen it, was dumbstruck by the pond scene where she attempts to seduce the bathing Mohanlal? No, there was no show of vulgarity here. Only the display of deep desire in those emotive eyes & expressions that, may I say, matched those of the ever youthful Apsara Menaka who was sent from Heaven to distract & seduce sage Vishwamitra.

Age has not changed her a wee bit.

And thanks to her classical dancing, she remains slender & graceful.

She looks best in traditional Indian wear.

Let her put on a Kanchipuram saree, fresh mulappu (flowers) on her head, a red bindhi above her eyes & a shy smile below and the best of paramedics will have a hard time reviving me !!

Sigh,

there she goes, the woman in my dreams Bhanupriya

3.

I first saw her in Aaina and lately in 3 Deewarein.

Superstars Mohanlal and Mammooty made futile attempts to impress her in movie Harikrishans while she innocently flirted with them her charming smile reminding me of a pony-tailed 12-year-old girl falling in love for the first time.

Any hairstyle suits her, me thinks, but I cannot say the same about her clothes.

She hurts me wearing hippie western clothes.

Any formal western office wear (with that long hair let loose) or any Indian wear on her and my motor neurons wil go berserk !

My knees will wobble and my head will spin but don’t worry I’ll be alright once she leaves the room :)

It doesn’t matter the deodarant she uses because I always smell the sweet fragrance of sincerity around her.

Innocent, sincere, beautiful with an optimistic smile on 24x7.

Sigh,

there she goes, the woman in my dreams Juhi Chawla

4.

An American-Indian surgeon extracted & ran away with her heart from the slippery clutches of many roadside Indian Romeos. Atleast these poor chaps tried but I failed to capitalise when I had the chance :(

Her joy for dancing flatters me more than her magical numbers especially the ’Dola Re’ in Devdas.

Sanjay Dutt may have murmured once that she lacks the etiquette of washing her hands after a meal but doesn’t he realise that even today I can fall to the temptation of fighting to be the first among a serpentine queue of thousands of wannabe ’waiters’ willing to clean those famous hands dipping them in a warm finger-bowl and gently wiping with a soft towel?

Her smile can launch a thousand pastes even today and

I hope one day, with light of the full moon shining on my window and my town & family asleep, she stealthily creeps into my room and softly stroke my hair singing a lullaby so that I fall into a dreamless peaceful sleep yet again.

Sigh,

there she goes, the woman in my dreams Madhuri Dixit

5.

Is this trained Bharatanatyam dancer & instructor the same woman I saw in the movies of the late 80’s and early 90’s?

Why was Age so partial to her showering her with more beauty as the years passed by?

In front of the camera, Amitabh Bachchan had the chance to sculpt her face into immortality while behind the camera, I had the chance to meet her and get my first autograph signed.

Only when she wears those ghungroos on her legs and begin to dance does her beauty fully blossom like a fully opened flower silencing the audience and the shadows beyond.

Lord Indra, I’m just joking, but I can’t resist saying that given the chance, you might one day charge from the Heaven in your chariot, abduct her and request her to dance for you in your court with the happy Devas amongst your audience.

It has begin to rain furiously outside while I write this with the Devas flashing their cameras (lightning) - I see you have nodded in agreement to my opinion ;)

Like a typical, conservative female Malayalee let her wear a pattu saree (traditional keralite dress), mulappu on her head, neck & arms adorned with gold jewellery (yes, a pottu (bindhi) and lipstick will do no harm) and woe betide anyone who drags me away from this Devaki !

Sigh,

there she goes, the woman in my dreams Shobana

It’s early morning and the sky is clear, the birds chirping away happily to welcome the new day. Manoj’s mother enters into the room with a warm black tea for her son. As she pulls away his bedsheet, she is met with a strange sight. Her son is smiling in his sleep. Does she know that in a world far away, in his dreams, Manoj is having the joy of his life dancing in abandon with Ash, Bhanu, Mad, Juhi and Shoba?

Let her not know and let Manoj remain asleep......
