Chehra kya dekhte ho…?

Yawwwnn……Aishwarya Rai…. Yaawwwnnnn… ..Madhubala…. .Yawwnnn… ..Nutan… .Yawwwnnn……. Madhuri Dixit…… Yawwnnn… …Hema Malini…..

Beauty is sooooo boring!

Perfect face, dove eyes, clear complexion, gleaming pearlies, radiant smile…etc, etc.

And that too in Bollywood of all places?

Arre baba, here you will find these attributes in abundance. That’s what makes it boring in the first place.

Yawwwnnn….aahhhh…sorry!

Then a review on “Five Most Beautiful Actresses”…why am I even bothering to….yawwnnn…write on it?

Okay, no more yawning now!

Wash your face, oil your hair, sit up straight!

And Pay attention!

By dwelling merely on the aesthetic appeal of a person, we tend to disregard the inner beauty which is a much stronger characteristic and defining attribute.

BEAUTY IS NOT SO SUPERFICIAL AS BEING ABOUT A PERFECT FACE, DISARMING SMILE OR COME-HITHER LOOKS. THAT FADES AWAY AS YOUTH PASSES BY.

BEAUTY GOES FAR DEEPER THAN SKIN! AND IS FAR MORE PERMANENT!

Chehra kya dekhte ho….

Dil mein utar kar dekho na, Dil mein utar kar dekho na…

Mausam pal mein badal jaayega….!!!

My choices:

TUN TUN

How many girls would like to be laughed at for being chubby? Most of us dread the prospect of being called overweight, leave alone relish being the object of ridicule. But Uma Devi was made of sterner stuff. When a career as a playback singer did not take off, she became the prima donna of comedy. Among the first fat women comediennes, she hauled her obesity to a fine art form and excelled in it. Many of us forget she is a woman first. Didn’t the woman inside feel the same way as the rest of us do? Tun Tun had inner beauty – pure, innocent and loving. And these were the qualities that shone through the charm of her character portrayals. Tun Tun is my Beauty No.5.

ARUNA IRANI

Despite being one of the finest performers, Aruna never got her due. But she never gave up – despite being reduced to portraying roles of sister, bhabhi, vamp, cabaret dancer, maidservant, etc. Although she could have qualified as a beauty in the conventional sense, her choice (or lack of it) of roles did not project this conventional beauty to the right degree. But Aruna was a fighter and it is this fortitude which kept her going. Her indomitable spirit is what her beauty is all about. To me, Aruna Irani is Beauty No. 4.

SMITA PATIL

Feminine grace and coy mannerisms are the hallmark of most of our Bollywood damsels. But to portray characters like a foul mouthed slum dweller taking a bath on the roadside (remember Chakra?) requires a degree of confidence that is rarely seen. And that too in the early 80s, when such things were unheard of. It was this inner strength of character that prevailed even when Smita took on the Bollywood biggies in their domain by performing glamourous roles opposite the Big B and others. For this strength of character and realistic portrayals of women of different strata of society, Smita Patil is my Beauty No.3.

MALLIKA SHERAWAT

Cheesecake!!!

So, there! Finally we have something here! Or do we?

Look again. Ms. Sherawat’s inclusion in this list is not only for her physical attributes. It is more about the way she has projected herself. Aspiring starlets willing to shed their clothes can be found dime-a-dozen. Why Sherawat ma’am stands apart is that she is classy. She is outspoken. She is gutsy. To make a mark in Bollywood without a godfather requires something. And it is because she possesses this quality which makes her my Beauty No. 2

SULOCHANA

Who?

Well, old timers would know her as the perennial mother! In the generation of Nirupa Roy and others, Sulochana’s “mother” had something saintly about her. The exact depiction of any mother! My mother! Her quality of caring. Her vulnerability. Her kindness. Her warmth. Her sorrow. Whenever I saw her on screen, I felt like rushing into her arms. AND ISN’T ONE’S MOTHER THE MOST BEAUTIFUL WOMAN ON EARTH FOR EVERY CHILD? For an authentic and faithful portrayal of motherhood, Sulochana becomes my Beauty No.1.

So! How did you like my Five Beauties?

Charming, aren’t they?

You don’t think so? Too bad!

But then, don’t they say, “Beauty lies in the eye of the beholder”?
