There is a hymn in Sanskrit which goes like this: Ahalya, Draupadi, Kunti, Tara, Mandodari Tatha, Pancha Kanya Smare Nityam, Maha Pataka Nasanam. In English it means, if I remember everyday the names of Ahalya, Draupadi, Tara and Mandodari, I will be free of all the sins of the world. Similarly, if I will select Five Most Beautiful Indian Actresses, I will be contented with a feeling of love and affection towards them for what they have done, and still do, to entertain with their superb acting and charm innumerable audiences like me. I hope my MouthShut friend Bhavna, after going through this, will send me her assessment of my Review through a M2M message.
The order in which the Actresses are described, does not in any way reflect anything about their acting.
1.Nandita Das , Nitu, whom I and my wife know since her childhood, and have seen her grow into an actress of international fame. Her acting in Fire is simply superb. She has a beauty of her own. Without knowing Tamil, she has acted in a Tamil film with her qualities of acting, which are just her own forte. She is an MA in Sociology and was teaching at the Rishi Valley School of Krishnamurti Foundation, India. All these go to make her acting superb.
2.Jaya Bhaduri, whom we visualise as our own daughter because her smiles and other mannerisms resemble those of our daughter, Kasturi. In Guddi, she is at her best, and again in Hazar Chaurasi Ki Ma as a greying mother. She is beautiful in what and how she portrays herself in the roles she plays, each time internalising the dialogue and the pathos in it.
3.Meena Kumari, in Parineeta and in Sahib, Bibi aur Gulam. In Parineeta, she looks every inch a sweet Bengali girl, which she portrays in the most beautiful manner. The adage There is beauty in what the beautiful does is very apt in her case. I have seen Parineeta 16 times. We met her in Bomaby towards the evening of her life.
4.Jayashree. This Marathi actress in the Hindi film Shakuntala, looks extremely beautiful as Shakuntala. Her eyes are just charming, and are full of messages. Again in Dr. Kotnis Ki Amar Kahani, she plays the role of a cute Chinese girl accompanying her Indian husband.
5.Aparajita Mohanty. This beautiful and versatile actress of Oriya Films is the darling of the millions of viewers, both in the big and small screens. Her husband Uttam Mohanty is also an actor, and in many Oriya Films this husband-wife team do very well. Aparajita is my dream girl, and any Oriya Film without her is not my cup of tea.
Thats all. I wish all of them Best of Luck in their Careers. They have a great future ahead.
